Cross That Survived Atomic Bombing of Nagasaki Returned

Nagasaki, Japan, Aug 7, 2019 / 04:42 pm (CNA).- An Ohio college is returning to Nagasaki's Immaculate Conception Cathedral a wooden cross that was recovered from the cathedral's remains after the Aug. 9, 1945 atomic strike on the city.

Dr. Tanya Maus, director of Wilmington College's Peace Resource Center, planned to return the cross Aug. 7.

“Very few artifacts from the cathedral were retained and that’s why it’s crucial to give back that cross, which is so deeply tied to their identity,” Maus said, according to Wilmington College, a Quaker liberal arts institution in Wilmington, Ohio.

The return is being made as an “international goodwill gesture of peace and reconciliation.”

Maus said that “this is something we need to do. These are connections that help build a more peaceful world.”

The only wartime use of nuclear weapons took place in 1945's Aug. 6 attack on Hiroshima and Aug. 9 attack on Nagasaki by the United States.

Wow. Hard to imagine anyone surviving near ground zero. Hopefully the world will never again see nuclear weapons used on cities.

It says that they were actually holding service inside the cathedral when the bomb went off 2,000 feet away. Everyone inside was killed immediately, but the cross miraculously survived intact. Even given what happened and why that day, God had an invisible hand in this in His own way, and for His own reasons.

Unfortunately nuclear weapons will be used again. People have been indoctrinated into thinking that a nuclear war is unwinnable. The Chicoms and Ruskies are prepared for the eventuality. We had hundreds of above ground tests when I was a kid and we’re still here. Granted they were in remote places. But it didn’t seem to have any long term effects on the earth. Armegeddon is prophesied in the Bible so at some point the powers that be will devolve into a state of global conflict.

Not to take away... But the bombs were atomic not nuclear. Nuclear weapons have never been used on war.

peace and reconciliation

America has never wanted war but we better be prepared to fight and that may even mean nuclear again. Our enemies don't give one flying sh*t about "peace and reconciliation".
