“If sin defiles us, there must be some way of being “undefiled” so that we can go to Heaven. What happens if we die before we are purged of our sins, or the effects of sin in this life? We go to Purgatory.”

On Judgment Day, after our sins are shouted from the mountains, Jesus Christ will cover or vouch for the effects of our sins, due to our true belief in Him and our hearts being truly with Him. We are, at that time, made Holy in God’s Eyes and can be in Heaven.

There is no Purgatory and nothing in the above article references such a thing. After all, it even takes this imbecile dipping into non-Canon documents and reliance upon “Tradition” to eek out just a bit more to try to push his assertion over the line. Sadly, he can’t do it, and, sadly, we have FReepers who are so stupid they can’t see this and can’t debate their way out of the simplest of corners. Right, “ebb tide?”

Nah, poorly written, downright abuse of Scripture.

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”

Apostle Paul

But here we have a problem. If we’ve died in the state of grace (righteousness, justice, friendship with God), we may still be defiled by sin...

No maybe about it. In Isaiah we are told our righteousness is like filthy rags, and in the gospels Jesus says only God is good.

If Purgatory was real we could read about it in the Bible. It is NOT there.
Jesus spoke of heaven and hell...but NEVER of purgatory.

Purgatory is a lie of satan. It is a path to salvation apart from Christ. How many will go to hell depending on this heresy instead of the saving grace of Christ?

More plus points for the Orthodox church...didn’t go with the splinter church in Rome’s purgatory.

Very interesting.
It's late and I'm tired but I will read it tomorrow.

But, purgatory IS a stumbling block for non-Catholics. I never understood why since, at the end of our time in purgatory, we would be with God for eternity.

Is there NO punishment except eternity in hell? Sounds too harsh for our loving God.

Let’s take a more Orthodox view.
Free will is a great gift given mankind that is not removed from us after death.
If we have been true and faithful Christians then our reward is Heaven.
The blood of Christ has cleaned us from sin, very much as the Protestants say.
Here is the main question. What keeps us from sinning in the kingdom of Heaven?
A pious belief, but not one required for salvation is an acceptance of Toll Houses (no chocolate chips here though)
These Toll Houses purge the desire to sin.
We are clean by the blood of Christ. We retain free will. We no longer desire sin.

So, Purgatory is only for saved souls but Y’all still ask dead mortals to pray for those in Purgatory - and Jesus, having taken on our sins, wants a last shot at smacking us down on the way to Heaven...did I get that right?

While there are some Protestants who believe in Purgatory privately

And plenty of Catholics who don't (being mature enough to admit that their church was corrupted at various times in its past)

Purgatory is a satantic ruse to replace the forgiveness granted by the Blood of Christ

Purgatory is that state of temporary punishment by which a person who is not condemned to Hell is purified of sin or the debt of sin, before entering Heaven.

By accepting Christ's sacrifice, taking them upon Himself, your sins though "as scarlet, shall be white as snow". I don't see "after we burn you for awhile" included there.

If Jesus’ death on the cross did everything, then there would be no need on our part to believe, to avoid sin, or to do good. In fact, we could live as wretched a life as possible and still go to Heaven.

Pure heresy.

Jesus did everything necessary for our Salvation. But He didn't remove our free will (if He did, we would be nothing but robots...nothing but HIS prisoners).

We must still use our free will to choose to receive that Salvation just as a prisoner must choose to walk outside his jail cell once the door has been flung open, his debt for crime having been paid.
