Ave Maria sung in Latin at the RNC
Ave Maria Sung at White House ^ | August 28, 2020 | Christopher Macchio

Posted on 08/28/2020 8:14:44 AM PDT by Antoninus

As the Republican National Convention wrapped up last night, an amazing thing happened. Schubert's Ave Maria was sung in Latin by opera singer, Christopher Macchio. It was a beautiful moment.

This was a master-stroke by Trump, likely suggested by Melania. I have posted it on some Catholic F-Book groups and it is being shared like wildfire. If you missed it, have a listen.

It was a nice ending to the most positive and upbeat political convention I have ever seen. And I’ve been watching them since 1972.

“Genius move by Trump to do this.”

Not in my opinion. I quit a large city choir that I loved because that was on the program. Won’t pray to Mary.

If they had balanced it with adding “How Great Thou Art” or similar, it would’ve been a smart move.

It was the most outstanding political moment I’ve seen.

I’m humbled to have been chosen to live during and witness this world-changing time.

“Geez, some people.”

“Some people” prefer not to blaspheme. But that’s just me; feel free to go ahead. Free country.

Some people need to learn who their friends are and lighten the **** up.

This is a war for civilization and your nose is out of joint because of a song. I’m pretty sure that if the mob wins they won’t be singing either one as they’re burning your house down.

You can’t even say one good thing about the Blessed Mother of God?

She is so beautiful to inspire The Ave Maria.

There is nothing wrong with honoring the Mother of our Lord.
Please go back and listen to it with an open heart. Take blaspheme out of your mind. Do you honor your mother? Can you show appreciation to the Mother of God? Honor. I honor my mom and my grandmothers. I also honor the Mother of Jesus.

Does anyone know the reasoning that prevents you from saving a youtube video flagged as “safe for kids” to a watch later playlist?

I understand it’s to comply with some legislation, but I fail to see the logic and, frankly, it’s a PITA. I’m not supposed to be watching videos at work - I typically load it, click watch later, and check them out at home. But anyone who flags their video as kid-safe makes this impossible.

Agree with you, Sam Adams. And fast access to particular speakers made it — for me — the “most watched” convention ever.

I’m usually quick to jump around and move onto something else, but there were times I heard more than an hour’s worth of speakers without interruption.

The program touched on every Make-America-Great-Again program in the book — and I also found out about other life-enhancing programs I was not aware of — helping American Indians, and so much more.

Entertaining, inspirational, classy, artistic, patriotic, and defiant to restore America to its founding principles of government by the people and for the people.

All future conventions will be measured against this one.

To each his each own, but note that the Angel Gabriel doesn’t share your difficulties over these lines.

Et ingressus angelus ad eam dixit: Ave (Maria) gratia plena: Dominus tecum: benedicta tu in mulieribus
Luke 1:26-38.

The next part is from Luke 1:42 (Elizabeth's greeting to Mary). She repeats Gabriel's Benedicta tu in mulieribus before adding:

Et benedictus fructus ventris tui.

Macchio is evidently Italian-American. He used the Italian pronunciation of the Latin--"v" sound rather than "w" sound in ave and in ventris. In Classical Latin the "v" is believed to have sounded like "w."

Interesting. Our choir sings it, in Latin, and not many of us are Catholic. We sing it as an offering to our audience; those who view it as a prayer to Mary will appreciate it as such, and those who don’t will love it as a beautiful piece of music.
