Communion for Joe Biden? It slowly dawns on Catholic bishops that they better stand for something

After a long slumber, it looks as if the Catholic bishops are waking up to the nature of the assault on Church teachings from abortion-favoring Democrats, such as Joe Biden, who use their status as Catholics to rope in votes.

Here's what they are up to, according to the Associated Press:

U.S. Catholic bishops overwhelmingly approved the drafting of a "teaching document" that many of them hope will rebuke Catholic politicians, including President Joe Biden, for receiving Communion despite their support for abortion rights.

The decision, vehemently opposed by a minority of bishops, came despite appeals from the Vatican for a more cautious and collegial approach to the divisive issue. And it raises questions of how closely the bishops will be able to cooperate with the Biden administration on issues such as immigration and racial injustice.

The result of the vote — 168 in favor and 55 against — was announced Friday near the end of a three-day meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops that was held virtually. The bishops had cast their votes privately on Thursday after several hours of impassioned debate.

168 to 55.  Too bad we don't know who those 55 are; all we know is that they are politicized leftists.  One wonders what the hell their conversations are with God are like with that attitude.

But the fact that a big majority voted in favor of this document, as watered down as it is, with no naming names on politicians who oppose Church teachings on abortion and who work to undermine them, is a positive development.

They better stand for something or they’ll fall for anything.

The bishops in the U.S. are realizing they stand for something here, and have to stand for something; otherwise, they become a garden-variety social justice warrior activist group with no compelling reason to join it.

They’ve been silent on the news of Planned Parenthood nakedly buying and selling human baby parts in a grotesque commodification of human flesh for big dollar gains, saying literally nothing on the grounds that might rile things up.

But in this document, where the issue of what it means to be a Catholic, and the basic requirement that one not troll for votes as a Catholic and then use the political power gained once in to destroy the Church and render its teachings on life meaningless, seems to be a sign that the bishops are waking up.

You can’t be a Catholic in communion with the Church taking the literal body of Christ one moment and voting to give cash for abortions to destroy other people’s bodies.

I don’t think the Bishops can stand the counter-attack from DNC since the Pope will probably be on DNC’s side.

I was heartened to hear Biden didn’t get the photo op he wanted coming home from Europe last week. I know B16 didn’t give Pelosi her photo op when she visited the Vatican some years ago. I still remember Biden once saying, The next Republican who question my faith I’m going to strangle them with my rosary beads.

"The floor of Hell is paved with the skulls of bishops."

- variously attributed to St. John Eudes, St. Athanasius, and St. John Chrysostom.

I was surprised. I fully expected Bergoglio to hold a love-in with Dementia Joe as rebuke to the American bishops who oppose him on abortion. Rare example of Bergoglio doing the right thing. I’m disoriented by that, frankly. (Though there like is some secret, rational explanation, e.g., the ChiComs vetoed it?).

....[The Roman Catholic bishops] better stand for something or they’ll fall for anything....

Yup!!!!

Biden’s pro-abortion stance is but one of his many deviations from the Christian faith!!! He MUST be stopped from parading himself as a “devout Catholic”!!!

Even faithful Christians are enjoined against parading themselves, after all!!!!

We’ll see how much of a “positive development” it is when the document is actually written. Bishops are now under major pressure from US govt, pres, congress, pope, cdf, and US leftists. Wouldn’t be surprised if the UN jumps on the bandwagon. To not succumb to the pressure to wimp out, the bishops need to really rely on the Holy Spirit.

Same here. I’m glad he told Biden’s people it would not be a good idea, but again it seems political more than spiritual.

The priests will probably fold and apologize. But if they dont fold, I’ll be waiting for Joe to call those clergymen “Dog Faced Pony Soldiers” or something equally stupid.

They must do this. It’s their job and their calling and the times demand it.

They are entrusted with great responsibility and they must act accordingly.

I’ve read that, given their positions and responsibilities, they’ll be judged, too, along with those who are lead astray and likely to their destruction due to these false doctrines and practices that they have either tacitly allowed or blatantly approved.

They, like all of us, need to answer in their hearts and in their actions: “Who do you serve?”

Is it God? Or is it the world and our desires and hungers for it?

Now is always the time to be very clear and unambiguous about this.

Great. Now if we could get them to stop allowing “Pride” ceremonies at our churches we might have a shot at holding the line against the decline of this country, and save a lot of souls to boot. That’s the business in which they have professed to be.

Actually, it's not their job and it's not their calling.

The USCCB is nothing more than a construct that has no ecclesiastical weight in the Church; it's very creation was vociferously argued against by then Cardinal Ratzinger, who (rightly) pointed out that it could be used by weak bishops who were seeking political cover for not stepping up to do their job.

The authority to issue an proclamation against Biden, Pelosi, or any other Catholic politician is already held by each of the individual bishops; it needs to be announced by those bishops in whose diocese these politicians live or work (where they would be attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion).

There is simply no authority given the "USCCB" that would allow them to circumvent an individual bishop's moral responsibility to have Holy Communion denied someone in his diocese.

We would be much better served if the USCCB simply didn't exist, if for no other reason than a bishop would have no place to hide.

They are suspecting it might be good to stand for something?

What’s next, Republicans standing for something?

I kid, no way the second will ever happen.

They had better not fold.....

Trying to appease the sinners and the godless is fun for a while but then they always demand more. (Even Pelosi isn’t good enough for AOC and Tlaib. Not leftist enough.) They want to be popular and fun to be at church to see. but it’s not Las Vegas or a TV series. Are they going to have priests hand out Planned Parenthood phone and address cards to the faithful on Sundays? And ones for assisted suicide places?

Cowering and saying “Uh, maybe, sort of, in a way, abortion isn’t what we prefer. Oh, sorry I said that. I mean it’s actually good for a woman to have total control and choice. Is that better?” is not part of their calling.

Unless they are working for the other side.
