U.S. Catholic Bishops Say There Will Be 'No National Policy' on Denying Communion to Pro-Abortion Politicians

Members of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops are trying to clarify their position and deal with the confusion caused by their announcement last week that they would create a teaching document on the Holy Eucharist or the meaning of Communion. The statement caused many to speculate that the church was looking to deny President Joe Biden and other pro-abortion Catholic politicians from receiving Communion.

The speculation was misplaced, said the bishops.

“There will be no national policy on withholding Communion from politicians,” the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said in a Q&A document dated June 21.

“The intent is to present a clear understanding of the Church’s teachings to bring heightened awareness among the faithful of how the Eucharist can transform our lives and bring us closer to our creator and the life he wants for us,” the document continued.

The bishops say the document being drafted is “not meant to be disciplinary in nature, nor is it targeted at any one individual or class of persons.” But it would spell out “the responsibility of every Catholic” to live in accordance with the church’s teachings.

The Hill:

The committee vote last week triggered debate within the church over whether Biden and other politicians should be denied the right to participate in communion based on their stance on abortion.

Jayd Henricks, a former top lay official with the bishops conference, told The Washington Post on Friday that though Biden’s election set in motion the document’s creation, bishops have a larger concern about Catholics not understanding communion.

He clarified that the use of the words “national policy” was about “giving guidance on a national level,” The Post reported.

I don’t know much about the politics of the Catholic Church. Does this mean that the more local bodies can develop a policy of withholding the Eucharist from pro-abortion politicians, if a local bishop decided to take their own teachings seriously?

The USCCB is a political organization, not a religious one. These national conferences have no place in the church hierarchy and have no reason to exist.

So hypocrite Joe Biden will continue his sacrilege and babies will die and Pope Francis who could excommunicate him does nothing. This man is the most noteable in the world and also the most influential. He spreads confusion about abortion by sponsoring it in poor countries with money and Pope Francis does nothing. Pope Francis could well influence Biden’s stance by excommunicating him. Pope Francis is God’s representative here on earth. He has the responsibility to do something and does nothing. I pray to Saint Thomas More that he petition the Father to lean on Pope Francis to at least speak up on the issue.

So they are unsure of communion requirements, but absolutely certain of global warming and border policies. They all need a career change.

As a former Episcopalian married to a very traditional Catholic... I say the following to my Catholic friends.

“Welcome to the party Pal”.

The poor, lost Church hopes to rule the world through communism just like they did with feudalism after the fall of the Roman Empire. Fat, over-bred, parasitic priests eating the food of the poorest while telling them that in the next life their suffering will be rewarded with paradise.

Heresy, to me is not always a bad thing. All it means is you hold view contrary to the organization you claim to belong too.

Biden holds a view contrary to Catholic teaching on abortion, and still claims to be a Catholic.

The Pope should point this discrepancy out to Biden ,and if he doesn't agree with the teaching of the church, Biden should be excommunicated. -Tom

I’m sure the Bishops will take a more active approach to enforcing the Church’s doctrines as soon as they finish the review of Church approved pedophilia.

The bishop decides. Not the USCCB, not the pope, not the synod. The bishop is the ruler in his own diocese.

Pope’s action is not necessary.

There are 2 people who have the authority to excommunicate Biden:

Bishop Wilton Gregory, Archdiocese of DC,

Bishop William Koenig, Wilmington, Delaware

The Catholic Church has always stood against abortion, euthanasia, birth control and same sex marriage among other things.

The Catholic Church still has NOT changed. This is just bishops with a small “b” who aren’t acting with a fully formed conscience.

Have they forgotten the Commenadment “Thou shalt not kill.”?

Many have not forgotten, but some have.

It is a shame in my opinion.
