Oklahoma Attorney General John O'Connor on Monday issued a cease and desist letter to Ascension, after the Catholic healthcare group reportedly suspended an unspecified number of employees who did not receive a COVID-19 vaccine before a Nov. 12 deadline.
Ascension St. John, a hospital in Tulsa, reportedly suspended the employees without pay Nov. 12 despite a state court’s emergency temporary restraining order prohibiting the group from taking action against employees who requested, but were denied, a religious exemption to the hospital's vaccine mandate.
“It appears that Ascension is determined to trample on the sincerely held religious beliefs of the healthcare heroes it employs despite the court’s clear mandate,” O’Connor said in the cease and desist letter.
“Ascension’s actions will also interrupt patient care and prevent patients from being treated by the provider of their choice.”
Local news reports from Nov. 13 suggested that Ascension St. John temporarily reversed its decision to suspend the employees, before resuming the suspensions the same day.

John O’Connor is a saint.
Just wondering…
Excellent. A religious exemption should be taken very seriously.
My admiration for the leadership of Oklahoma grows daily.
It won’t stop until they arrest the person in charge, then the person in charge after that. Perhaps the third person will listen to reason.
“trample.” This word is never used by a normal person. Trample? Whatever. In other news, punishing people for not taking an experimental vaccination is unethical and immoral.
Good. Ascension backed off on this in Florida after DeSantis opposed employer vaccine mandates and got a law passed. They re-hired all the people they fired, or at any rate those willing to come back.
Horrible that a theoretically Catholic medical group should be doing this.
This is a small rural Hosp.
I've worked up in the grills of COVID pt's..and doing CPR on them...And I am not sick with the 19....This has been months now...I'm not sick....
And have other employee's say they had the VAX and they do not have to mask up anymore.....
Guess what...many of them got the 19 again.
I either have natural immmunity...or I have had the 19 long ago.
I do not know.
I will not be taking the VAX though....
I will know next week...I'd guess what they want to do.
I have seen the Bishop of Tulsa several years ago. He would I believe support suspending the employees.
