[Catholic Caucus] Bishop Michael Olson, Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth, now under criminal investigation

FORT WORTH, Texas - A criminal investigation has been launched into the actions taken by Bishop Michael Olson against two nuns in Fort Worth in April.

According to a release, the investigation is looking into the actions taken by Olson and those in the Fort Worth diocese under his control relating to the Discalced Carmelite Mother Superior and Nuns at the Monastery of the Most Holy Trinity in Arlington.

The Mother Superior and a sister from Carmelite nuns claim Olson abused his power and inflicted moral violence and psychological distress on the Mother Superior and the rest of the nuns in multiple visits to their monastery in late April in violation of both civil and Catholic canon law.

According to the release, Bishop Olson, together with Rev. Msgr. E. James Hart and the diocesan Chancellor Sandra Schrader-Farry, with a mere 30 minutes notice, informed the sisters that they were coming to visit the monastery on April 24. They showed up also with another unnamed forensic expert and demanded entrance into the monastery, over which the Bishop has no civil or canonical authority.

Shortly after entering, Bishop Olson immediately demanded that Mother Superior Teresa Agnes Gerlach turn over her computer, iPad, and cellular phone to him without explanation.

1) The bishop's actions seem a bit ... Soviet.

2) diocesan Chancellor Sandra Schrader-Farry ... yeah ... I think I see the problem.

When someone who has no legitimate authority over you and yours demands to search your house and interrogate your family ...

and you refuse them ...

What are YOU hiding?

A nun (or a priest) has an obligation to the church hierarchy including personal matters including sexual behavior. It’s not a 4th amendment issue.

The mother superior was accused of having an affair with a priest. The bishop was investigating, concluded the affair took place, and removed her from her position. Based on the church’s reaction to the sexual scandals, she really can’t claim privacy in this matter.

A nun takes a vow of obedience, which includes obedience to lawful superiors. The bishop in this case was affirmed as the representative of the Pope on this matter. Just like a private has no right to privacy over an search of his footlocker by a ranking soldier or officer, the nun has no cannonical standing to refuse a search of her personal effects during this investigation of sexual misconduct.

I don’t know all of the the details on this particular matter, but there is a huge difference with respect to the governance of a pontifical vs. a diocesan religious community. Absent some specific delegated authority from Rome, the local bishop has no authority related to a pontifical religious community.

A nun takes a vow of obedience, which includes obedience to lawful superiors.

Olson was not the lawful superior, until Bergoglio made him so, long after the Gestapo inquisition.

Both Olson and Bergoglio are crooked dictators. And why hasn't the priest who allegedly had the affair either been identified or dismissed from the clerical state?

One of Bergoglio's favorite Jesuits, Fr. Rupnik, was the lawful superior of the nuns he raped. Were they bound, by the vow of obedience, obliged to let the pervert rape them?

This is a catholic caucus.

Are you a practicing Catholic?

The article is pretty clear that the bishop has neither civil nor canonical authority over the order of nuns, which reports directly to the Pope. The local bishop is not in their canonical chain of command, and in the civil realm they’re governed by an independent Board of Directors.

So ... My questions stand.

The donors' list. The Bishop wanted it, and he has no right to it.

A nun (or a priest) has an obligation to the church hierarchy including personal matters including sexual behavior.

There are canonical limits to the jurisdiction. For instance, a priest or religious cannot be required to undergo psychiatric treatment or get medical treatment against his will. Nor can he have his personal medication withheld.

It’s a small religious community. If the bishop is able to reduce the number of nuns, he can then force the sale and split the proceeds with the Vatican.

“diocesan Chancellor Sandra Schrader-Farry ... yeah ... I think I see the problem.”

She’s not the chancellor. Hart is. Schrader-Farry is head of “Safe Environment” and is known for being completely incompetent and a corrupt lackey of the Bishop’s.

Schrader-Farry is head of “Safe Environment”

She's also a hyphenated woman.

Beware of hyphenated women; never put them in positions of power or authority.
