A pastor who promised 'new levels of ministry' in 2024 attempted to give one McDonald's worker a baptism of fire in a deep fryer after he 'disrespected' his wife.
Trainee manager Latoya Gladney, 44, called her husband from the franchise in High Point, North Carolina, on December 28 to complain that her staff were being rude to her.
When he arrived, Pastor Dwayne Wayden walked round the counter and began punching Theodore Garlington in the face.
The preacher at Elevated Life International Ministries then grabbed the unfortunate cook and started shoving his head towards one of the fryers where temperatures reach up to 400 degrees, before 'several employees' managed to haul him away, police reported.
'The victim suffered a large contusion to the forehead and right eye, along with scratches to his neck,' investigators discovered when they arrived.
Wayden, 57, who also works as a semi-truck driver, was arrested for assault and battery when police watched security footage of the attack and taken to High Point Police HQ where he was released on a $1,000 bond.
An ambulance was called for Garlington, 34, but he asked that relatives drive him to hospital instead.
In his new year message Wayden spoke of 'leaving the old mentality behind and embracing the newness of life that's in front of you'.
'Don't be scared of taking a chance on something new, when you know the old way of doing things is not working,' he advised.
His church offers a series of videos for 'spiritual healing of the flesh' on its website, but one with advice on 'vexation, disappointment and suffering' promises only 'content coming soon'.
