Kindergarten children in Decatur, Mississippi will no longer be allowed to pray before they eat lunch.

The school district took immediate action after they learned that a teacher at Newton County Elementary School had been leading children in a prayer before lunchtime.

This could be easily solved. Give each kid a prayer rug.

> No one is forcing a child in this setting to join in. <

Perhaps not. But kids at that age are impressionable, and generally want to please the teacher. Iā€™m a Christian. If a Muslim public school teacher led an ā€œoptionalā€ prayer in my childā€™s class, Iā€™d go berserk.

What would my child be expected to do? Not listen? Get up and go to another room, and so maybe get a scowl from the teacher?

Much better that the public school teacher be removed from the equation entirely. Instead, instruct your own kids on how to silently pray and be thankful for their food.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

I would instruct my kid to pray aloud and invite others to join in.

Not being allowed to lead prayer is just a religiously loaded as allowing it. Neither ruling is religiously neutral.

Axiom: It is impossible to have a culturally, politically, or religiously neutral education. Impossible!

For this reason, government should not have any role in education on any level. There is one exception: military training.

How would having even more uneducated citizens make America great?

re: Non-demoninational

The lesson taught was that religious belief is bland, neutral, and **lukewarm**. This is **not** a religiously neutral lesson.

Axiom: It is impossible to have a culturally, politically, and religiously neutral education.

Solution: In an ideal world government would have **no** role in education. In a less ideal world all students would get a voucher.

If an alien spaceship sucked up every government school in this nation, what do you think would happen?

Answer: In about a month, the ***same*** children who are getting an education today would get an education.

There is one exception that comes to my mind: Mormons. They would have schools open ( probably free to all) by next Monday.

The old aliens sucking up schools scenario. If Iā€™ve seen it onceā€¦ā€¦ā€¦

Who would educate these now schoolless students? Their parents?

I prefer my children learn more than I ever did. Thankfully they already have.

Yeah. The entire schools are bad thing isnā€™t a winning platform, nor is it smart.

Ok, ....You can have your compulsory-attendance and compulsory-funded government schools...but you must accept there will be continual fights about school policies, curriculum, and practices.

Why?.....Because, ( Axiom) ....A religiously, culturally, and politically neutral school is **impossible**!

Solution: In an ideal world government would play **no**role in education. In a less ideal world, children would be given a voucher.

Re: “BUT without the leadership, it stopped the students from praying. “

You get it! Neither action can be religiously neutral.

The school has a binary choice. It can allow a teacher to lead the students in prayer, or forbid it. Neither action is religiously neutral in action or consequences.

Axiom: Religiously, culturally, and politically neutral schools are impossible. Such neutrality is impossible in any sentient mind.

Solution: Ideally government should not have any role in education on any level. In a not so ideal world: Vouchers!
