Wasn't that the guy who bled from his palms?

OTOH, I predict it'll be ten minutes after Pio's canonization that some psycho will claim he was molested by Pio in the early 20th century. < /sarcasm>

I went to a Catholic grammar school in the 60's and 70's which was run by a Franciscan order of sisters and Capuchin brothers. We knew about Padre Pio a long time ago. He was a miracle while he was alive! So many stories attributed to him. He is truly deserving of being a saint.

Padre Pio was a remarkable priest and confessor. He once said he didn't fear death because he could do more good work from heaven than he could here on earth. Here's praying he hears our cries for the cleansing of the Church during the present time of crisis.

Normally there has to be at least ONE authentic miracle attributed to a person before they are allowed to become a saint. In Padre Pio's case, there are only a few zillion to choose from! I don't know of any christian (Catholic or otherwise) who walked in so many signs & wonders. He truly was a living "miracle."

Those of you who are not familar with Padre Pio should do some research on the man -- even the current pope, while still a priest in Poland, made a special pilgrimage to see Padre Pio while he was still alive.

But more important than all the infinite number of miracles ascribed to him was that he truly loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart, soul and mind.

My mother grew up in the province of Molise, and when she was a little girl her stepmother one day took her to see Padre Pio.

She was in the Church, and saw him from the balcony. And to this day, whenever she talks about it, there's one thing that she swears she will never forget for the rest of her life:

The overwhelming smell of roses.

Back when I was agnostic, that always bugged me. I always wondered if someone wasn't pumping something into that church, because if you knew her and could see her face when she told it, you'd understand my mom just could *NOT* lie like that.

Great NEWS

(I notice the moderators are swiftly moving most threads on any "Catholic" issues to the "Religion Forum" ghetto. Will any other FReepers of good will join me in asking them to apply such censorship evenly, or knock it off?)

A bump for good news.

I think a large part of my conversion were stories about Padre Pio and Fatima, they got me just interested enough to start asking questions.
