What are some of the favorite hymns from in your church. I'm not talking about contemporary praise muzak, so-called "Christian Rock" or a bunch of grown men in robes moaning. I'm talking about real hymns sung from an old-fashioned songbook.

A real favorite at my church is Victory In Jesus. Other popular standards include, Power In The Blood, Trust and Obey, Mansion Over The Hilltop, Never Grow Old, Redeemed and of course, Amazing Grace.

Not an answer to your question, but rather a pointer to a superb
online collection of hymns.
So you can listen to your favorites in the office.

Okay I don't know the name of this one but the refrain is,
And I will raise you up!
And I will raise you up!
And I will raise you up on the last day!
And there's this song in Spanish called Resucitó. I don't really even know the translation but it sounds almost like a bullfighting song and you clap and there's a trumpet solo. It's just so uplifting!!

The favorite hymn at my church is Victory In Jesus, but we sing it a little differently than most churches. After the lyrics "He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood" are sung, everybody shouts "PRAISE GOD!"

Thanks for the link. I'm not really familiar with some of the songs, but I'm sure I'll find something I'll like.

My mom began taking us kids to Sunday School and Church when we were just little tykes...this was during the 1950s...she took us to the local Methodist Church....now Methodists have always loved to sing and belt out the hymns, and at times it seemed to me, that the roof was going to cave in and the wall tumble down, from all the loud and wondrous singing...
There are so many songs that I learned as a kid, and they have stayed with me always....
Songs like Amazing Grace, O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing, Onward Christian Soldiers, Blessed be the Tie that Binds, Blessed Assurance, Whispering Hope, He Lives, In the Garden, All Hail the Power of Jesus Name, There is a Fountain Filled With Blood, Nearer My God to Thee, are just a few hymns I learned and grew to love..
In Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, we had our own special hymns, easier for kids to learn and sing...songs like Do Lord, Sunbeam, Fishers of Men, Jesus Loves Me, Jesus loves the Little Children, Deep and Wide, This is My Fathers World, as just a few that I remember from my Sunday School days...
Add to that all the familiar and traditional Christmas and Easter and Holiday songs, and there are many, many hymns which hold a special place in my heart...
JohnLocke...this website that you gave the link to, has really pleased me, as they include one of my favorite Christmas Hymns, which you dont really hear too often, altho I have noticed in these last few years, I have been hearing it more and more...its, In The Bleak Midwinter, a truly lovely hymn for Christmas...
Thanks...love that old time gospel and hymn singing...

How great though art, There is power in Blood, Amazing grace, In the Garden, Recue the pairishing, Pslam 19, Oh there are so many great hymns my brother.
I got saved in a modern church called the Vineyard. There music was like the world. I not miss there rock contemperary stuff. The old hymns are the bast they say what need to be said. I like it when churches sing the whole song and not just a few verses.
Pleace pray for me and my Famaily we have not been good stuarts with our money and now we are getting behind in our bills. We are attempting to get our house in order but need GOD help. "The Morrisons"

I lead part of the worship music at my church. We do a more contemporary praise song at the beginning, and then the rest are hymns. I really like 'Tis So Sweet (to Trust in Jesus). I like a lot of other hymns as well, but I can't remember the names of them. It's only been in the last few years that I've been a regular church attender, so I'm still learning all the songs that my friends and family have been singing for decades.
Regarding children's songs, we have several tapes we play in the car and in the stereo at home for the kids. They're 4, 2 and 8 months, and the older two know all the songs word for word. I firmly believe that teaching them these songs now will help them in their walk later in life. How many of us have songs from our youth that bring back images and feelings? Songs stick with you forever:)

We add the word "One" before the word 'God', when singing "Holy,Holy,Holy".
ie.,....... "One God in Three Persons".......blessed Trinity!
Works well, and is "Sound Doctrine".

I wnet to a church were the worship leader had long hair and the teen teacher had green hair,
I can say I am glad I found a indepentant Baptist church that teaches the bible and our music is the members of the chruch not some rock bad so called worship team.

My church is in the world, not of the world. I am very careful in the selection of the "praise song" we do at the beginning of the service. I am very well aware of the tendency towards turning church services into concerts or festivals and I want no part of it. It's just me and an acoustic guitar up there, not some rock band.

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Saviors blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Tis mystery all: thImmortal dies:
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love divine.
Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.
He left His Fathers throne above
So free, so infinite His grace
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adams helpless race:
Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!
Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!
Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and natures night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
Still the small inward voice I hear,
That whispers all my sins forgiven;
Still the atoning blood is near,
That quenched the wrath of hostile heaven.
I feel the life His wounds impart;
I feel the Savior in my heart.
I feel the life His wounds impart;
I feel the Savior in my heart.
No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach theternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach theternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
