Where Have All the FR Protestants Gone?
drstevej

Posted on 04/08/2003 10:29:25 AM PDT by drstevej

OBSERVATIONS:

[1] There seems to be a significantly reduced number of Protestant Threads (KJV Only being the exception for sure) in the FR Religion Forum.

[2] There seems to be a reduced number of FR Protestant posts in the Religion Forum.

This thread is a place to discuss these observations.

I think you and your compadres should discuss religion with the Mormons. They worship Joseph Smith and try to die uttering "I believe in the prophet Joseph Smith", and not that they believe in God the Father or Jesus Christ. They in turn can try to understand your fascination with Mary ( I know you don't worship her, okay whatever you say)and tell you all about God's wife, heavenly mother, and the rest of us will put our iambic pentameter feets up and watch the fun.

After a year of bombardment from my HS Latin teacher of cumming's work, I lost interest. And patience.

my Latin teacher used to regale us of her summers when she was "abroad in Rome". Not a good term for us then, akin to Sherlock Holmes "knocking Watson up"

All in green went my love riding
on a great horse of gold
into the silver dawn.

four lean hounds crouched low and smiling
the merry deer ran before.

Fleeter be they than dappled dreams
the swift sweet deer
the red rare deer.

Four red roebuck at a white water
the cruel bugle sang before.

Horn at hip went my love riding
riding the echo down
into the silver dawn.

four lean hounds crouched low and smiling
the level meadows ran before.

Softer be they than slippered sleep
the lean lithe deer
the fleet flown deer.

Four fleet does at a gold valley
the famished arrow sang before.

Bow at belt went my love riding
riding the mountain down
into the silver dawn.

four lean hounds crouched low and smiling
the sheer peaks ran before.

Paler be they than daunting death
the sleek slim deer
the tall tense deer.

Four tell stags at a green mountain
the lucky hunter sang before.

All in green went my love riding
on a great horse of gold
into the silver dawn.

four lean hounds crouched low and smiling
my heart fell dead before.

Not on the religion forum.

here is little Effie's head
whose brains are made of gingerbread
when the judgment day comes
God will find six crumbs

little effy, gone and dead
his world all a'crumble on his head
sighed and died, and left no bread
"what's it all about, Effie"
was all they said
and cried,
then they fried
him in effy, gee
committing Effycide

What is it with this guy? I can't find a coherent sentence to argue with...It makes no sense.

Not to divert us back to the topic, but THIS is why the Christians are leaving FR. I have at least skimmed the most laborious posts of this thread and, again, the Mormons get a (largely) free ride because the Christians are intimidated by "the owner" from calling a foolish and erroneous spade a foolish and erroneous spade.

Then one can also review the interminable list of threads attempting to provide a fresh coat of whitewash to the sepulcher which is the RCC ("15,000 ridiculous reasons why I am a Catholic", etc).

When error cannot be called error, the erroneous are king.

If you check the religion forum posts, 98% are now Catholics and Mormons agreeing with each other that Protestants are teaching error. The recent thread "150 Reasons why I am a Catholic" was up around 500 posts today and probably the mojority of the posts would be considered "Protestant Bashing" if there actually were such a thing on Free Republic.

It is open season on Protestant leaders and protestant doctrine, but don't you dare criticize the pope or Joseph Smith or make fun of their looks or their lifestyles or you risk being banned from the forum.

It OK to say that Spurgeon was a drooling idiot or that Jerry Falwell is a fat buffon, but don't you dare even mention that the Pope has a problem keeping his saliva from fallling on his speeches or that Joseph Smith had a problem keeping his fly zipped, or all hell would break loose.

And if we were to go and actually challenge some of the ridiculous statements being made in the 150 Reasons Why I Am a Catholic Thread, we will most certainly be suspended, and if we dare to state that Gordon Hinkley just might not be a "true" prophet of God, then we are all accused of Mormon Bashing.

I would like to start a thread, "10 reasons why I left the LDS Church," or "10 Reasons Why I am NOT a Catholic," but I am certain that thread would be pulled faster than you can say Pay Lay Ale or Hail Mary. But the LSD (sic) posters and Catholic posters are always more than welcome by the managment to post their little threads about why they are no longer Presbyterians or Baptists or whatever.

Oh Well, that seems to be the way of the world these days.

OK, Rant over. Carry on.

BTW, How's the weather?

this poem was written at the height of Jesse's blue period, when his thoughts had become steeped in this cold, melancholy colour. Most of the people in the blue period poems are beggers, prostitutes or convicts reflecting the sadness of some parts of society and their lack of any place in the world.

The old Jew blind, destitute and a member of an outcast race, epitomizes the suffering with which Picasso, um, I mean Jesse,,was obsessed at the time. In true romantic fashion he seems to have belived that, as an artist he was rejected and despised.
