Farmingville LI Traditional Catholic church desecrated
News12 ^ | May 11, 2003

(05/11/03) FARMINGVILLE - When parishioners of St. Michael the Archangel in Farmingville showed up for Mass on Sunday, they found their church desecrated. The parishioners, many of which travel from all across Long Island to attend a traditional Catholic Mass said in Latin, are devastated.

Church goers at St. Michael the Archangel Church are in shock that someone would desecrate their house of worship. Windows and doors were shattered and the most revered symbols inside the church, the tabernacles, were ripped from the altar and cast out onto the lawn.

The 120-year-old altar, that was relocated here from an upstate church, was smashed down the middle.

The destruction that was done to their church didn't stop parishioners from celebrating Sunday Mass.

An altar was constructed outside and car mats were used for kneeling as services went on even without a church.

Church officials don't have a price tag on all the damage yet.

~ PRAYER ~

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we  humbly pray,
and thou, O Prince of heavenly host,
 by the power of God,
Thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
 Amen

Very sad that anyone would do this.

This is not a church recognized by the Diocese as far as I know.

Bishop Murphy only allows 2 Tridentine masses per month, and neither in a beautiful old style church like this one.

Question: Would the Eucharist have been left in the Tabernacle all night or placed somewhere else? If it was originally there was it still there in the morning after the break-in? This would give a clue as to the nature of the intruders.

It's an SSPX Chapel

This is horrible.

This is perhaps the premier schismatic chapel on Long Island, with a large and devout congregation.

Whoever committed this sacrilege clearly did it as an act of hatred against the community: the pride and joy of the church - namely the Blessed Sacrament and the relic altar (which is more or less valueless to nayone but a traditionalist) were specifically desecrated and damaged on purpose.

Prayers of reparation.

SSPXers. One of the oldest groups in the country.

I watched the video. Apparently the Eucharist was left in there and found strewn all over the lawn the next day. There was no money in the church, except for the few quarters and dimes used to light candles. Perhaps $5 in change was taken ... the damage is priceless.

This is terrible. Clearly, the objective was not money, but just desecration.

Pure unadulterated evil.

What an ugly attack. Certainly not the first attack on the Mystical Body of Christ, almost certainly not the last.

It is unlikely that there had been a count of the consecrated Hosts prior to the vandalism. Those found on the lawn do not eliminate the possibilty that the purpose was theft of the Eucharist for satanic purposes such as use at a black mass and that the Hosts strewn on the lawn were strewn precisely for the purpose of making this appear the act of brainless vandals rather than satanists.

Another sad bump. Hatred and evil will always rear their heads from time to time.

What a beautiful altar! It reminds me of the Churches of my youth.

They will be able to replace it, most likely, since so many Modernist churches are ripping out altars like these and replacing them with ugly slabs (like that in Cardinal Mahoney's barren edifice).

This sacrilege has been bothering me all day. I keep checking the local news to see if anything else is being written about it.

What's puzzling me the most is the fact that the altar was split down the middle. Wouldn't that take some sort of large tool to do that?

Weren't the old altars made out of marble?

This church has been in the middle of a controversy regarding their helping illegal alien day workers.
