COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul's supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term Texas congressman's campaign for the White House.
Called a "Money Bomb," the goal was to raise as much money as possible on the Internet in one day. The campaign's previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million.
At midnight EST, donations were over $6 million, according to the campaign Web site. Those donations are processed credit card receipts, said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. Benton said the median donation is about $50 in the fundraiser, which was the idea of Paul supporters who are not officially connected to the campaign.
Trevor Lyman, a Paul supporter who is traveling the country following the Ron Paul blimp, said the date of the fundraiser coincides with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.
The Ron Paul blimp is an aerial billboard emblazoned on one side with "Who is Ron Paul? Google Ron Paul." The other side reads "Ron Paul Revolution." The blimp, another grass-roots effort, was in Chester, S.C., on Sunday, and organizers hope to get it to New Hampshire before the Jan. 8 primary there.

This is one fairly good description of “middle”.
Another is to remove the far right wing and far left wing and what you have left is... the middle.
Again, it’s just first-hand observation, concerning my perception that Mr. Paul’s supporters are mostly dems. I took leave a few months ago to my home town in NY, most of my dem friends had Ron Paul and barack obama signs up in their front yard. They all supported him because of his foreign policy views, which happen to be the opposite of mine. That is my only problem with the guy, I’m not accusing him of being a neo-nazi or quasi-dem.

Ron Paul gets Reps, Dems, Libertarians, Independents, he brings them all in. I hope we’ll have the opportunity to find out.

"Strong on national defense" can cover a multitude of positions. SDI? 500-ship Navy? Pre-emptive strikes?
How strong does it have to be before you've gone over the edge and become an aggressor?

Oh puleez. You may not be intentionally doing it, but you're spouting BS. I have been on Paul supporting forums, and these are regular people, they don't have extreme views - unless you consider supporting the constitution and protecting our rights extreme or "fringe."
He IS drawing support from moderates who are sick of corrupt, phony politicians. The crossover Dems who support him, from what I have seen, are NOT "fringe" or extreme, they are, in general, decent people who care about protecting our freedoms and our country, they may disagree with Paul on some things, but if they actually WERE 'fringe' or extreme leftists, they sure as hell wouldn't support someone who stands for the polar opposite of everything they believe in.
You are simply incorrect, but if it makes you feel better somehow to think that Paul's support is all from the far fringes, then go ahead and believe the MSM BS that has been fed to you. And good luck with your MSM approved, statist candidate who will continue to take us towards socialism. Wooops - maybe you think that being opposed to a big government RINO is "fringe." Another way to put it: Ron Paul gets a small minority of Reps, Dems, Libertarians, Independents.
They’re loud, but still small. Kind of slightly more than the sum of Libertarians plus Anarchists.
Ed Griffin’s wife Pat and I are friends. The organizer of the rally, Steven Vincent, said last week that Ed was only going to speak for 10 minutes. I said that it is impossible for Ed to speak for only 10 minutes (as he can speak for a good hour on any topic).
Anyway, after a few opening remarks, Ed said that he was going to limit his speech to eleven (11) words: “Ron Paul is the only candidate who can be elected President!” Then he said a few other things before the FED RESERV[E] crate was thrown off the pier and closed with his eleven words.
I know that several people recorded the event and will put it on YT. Unfortunately, the sound system had a few kinks and the sound might be off. The roar of the crowd, however, could be heard forever. It was an electrifying event!
In the Soviet Socialist Republik of Santa Monica, not one whale was hurt nor was the environment damaged.
Children were present, some in strollers. One small girl (age 10?), with a bullhorn, was leading some of the chants along the way. I didn’t realize how young she was until I saw her pass (bullhorn in hand), with her mother.
As Dr. Paul says, “When, as a physician, you realize you’ve made a mistake, you change the treatment.” Democrats who voted for Kerry or Algore know that they made a mistake and needed to make a change in their vote. Hurray for them! They will be enlightened being around the rest of us who have been watching politics for a long time and witnessing the destruction caused by the CFR drones (Dems or Reps) placed in the WH.
However you define strong on national defense, Ron Paul ain’t.
And I’m from Texas. That saying isn’t how Texans define it, it’s how Jim Hightower defined it. Google him. If he hasn’t declared already for Kucinich, perhaps Paul can win him over.

First of all, congratulations on being awarded “sailor of the quarter” and thank you for your service.
Though you may not support Paul, I just hope those in your hometown who have RP signs will vote in the primary.
FYI, I looked at the numbers from the donors who have donated up till the end of the 3Q. Not many military personal appear on the donor list, or at least claim to be in the military. Having wrote that, Paul does appear to have more military personal donating to him. Again, the donors from the military are low, however he is leading and the most support is from those in the Air Force.

I understand a lot of liberals say these things to bash Bush over the head, for their own purposes. I don’t care what they say. Remember that finding Bin Laden was what this was originally about. We were going to capture him “dead or alive.” The fact that we didn’t, IMO, was due in large part to a flawed foreign policy. I think that with a better foreign policy we could have gotten him. In general, we still aren’t concentrating enough on dismantling Al Qaeda and taking down its leaders, whether or not Bin Laden’s still alive.
Would like to see the event on youtube as well. I will look for it in the coming days.

We both have but anectdotal information and our experience to draw on for our opinions.
Ron Paul’s foreign policy views rule him out for serious support. He won’t get above 20% due to this alone. And the interviews I’ve read of him indicate to me the more people see, the less they’ll consider him a serious candidate.
He’ll pick up a loud and active - and small - segment. But that’s it.

Paul calls these folks - the 9/11 terrorists - guys with knives and thinks fighting them with police power is sufficient. There’s not many of them, they don’t have a country.. Islamicists aren’t really a threat if we just leave them alone.
This plays well with the far left and with muslim supporters.
It doesn’t go down well with enough folks to win the primary or the general.
