Mark Sanford has proven that he can be distracted on a whim from the importance of the office entrusted to him by leaving the country without notifying his staff, for starters. I don’t want anyone with that level of absent-mindedness and indiscretion holding the office of President if I can help it.

And not that I agree with him or them for that, particularly. Palin may be imperfect but seems to be able tonmake the best out of the bad for acts not directly under her control. But Sanford proved that he's willing to throw a public trust out the window if he can gain some momentary gratification from it.

Definitely poor planning. He should imported Maria rather than exporting himself. Then he could have used Billy Jeff's strategy: he'd stop by Gennifer Flowers's apartment while out jogging for exercise.
