LICE don’t believe in “limited gov’t”, they believe in practically “no” gov’t. You can’t send nihilists to represent you in a philosophical debate. You can’t let pacifists and conscientious objects run your military, and you can’t hire atheists as your church’s pastor.

Well they musta done something wrong, because in that Great Marketplace of Ideas that we call “elections”, they lost market position and market share. Their only hope of regaining the same, is if the Democrats screw up big time.
Maybe the GOP can use this as their party motto the next few years: “If you elect me to office, I promise to do nothing.”

I think that libertarians actually believen in a Constitutional Republic form of government with the federal government doing ONLY what it is authorized to do.

Mark Kirk claims to be a key player in the Republican response on Healthcare. Kirk wants to become one of those lifers in the Senate.
Kirk will hold his finger to the wind and come out with his Republican response closer to the primary when it can have the biggest political impact for him. The content will be a bunch of sweet nothing cliches that offend nobody and pass his focus groups.
Hopefully Kirk will find staffers to do it for him more in touch with the real world than the John McGovern’s that Hastert lent to Kirk in the past and who were totally clueless about anything this side of the K Street.
Meanwhile, conservatives have to agree on a single challenger to Kirk, hopefully the summit in Downers Grove this Friday noon will be a step in that direction, even though the governor candidates are featured.

When he ran for the U.S. House, in 2000, the primary had 11 Republicans. The conservative vote split, helping Kirk win with 31%. I hope that all IL conservatives will support Dr. Eric Wallace.
No, not really. Ask a real live libertarian whether they believe in minimum wages, wage and hour laws, child labor laws, safety laws, worker’s comp programs, social security, food stamps, medicare, etc. etc. and if they are honest, they say all these things are socialism.

You can kill your baby any time up until it is actually born. Then, you don’t even have to feed it if you don’t want because it interferes with you doing what you want with your right to pursue happiness and be free.
This is why they have to glom onto conservatives and the GOP to advance their insidious little beliefs. If they tried to run on their own, they would either be committed for 72 hour mental evaluations in our more compassionate burgs, or splattered with eggs and rotten veggies in most places.

Ok, I'm a real live libertarian here and I'd agree. Can you show me where any of these are demanded or authorized by the US Constitution? Safety laws could easily be part of Interstate Commerce for the sake of uniformity amongst the states.
The states can do pretty much what they want within the limits of their Constitutions.

Beg to differ, but the reality is that more conservatives are more libertarian than you like to think. Conservatives have a tendency to want to use the force of federal government to push their own agendas just as the Liberals do, just with different issues.

Oh well, parsy, the GOP is the only party in US history to nominate for president the guy most responsible for undermining a GOP majority in both houses while the GOP also had the White House.
So if any GOP members really had any pride they'd either purge the party of those kind of idiots or walk away themselves.

Oh thank you for saying this! I have been preaching this for years on FR. Note also that the “Code” has what I call minimum wage laws (although they could be maximum wage laws) and regulates business practices. Apparently, watering down the beer was a hanging offense.

I'm not sold on Hughes, sounds like another good guy but unknown political amateur. Doesn't have nearly the seasoning, articulation of the issues, or political involvement that Dr. Eric Wallace has on his resume (plus Wallace is bringing in some heavy hitter conservative activists from around the nation like Ken Blackwell and Herman Cain to stump for him).
Supposedly a lot of these leaders are drawn to Hughes because he has the "personal funds" to compete. If so I hope he has about $10 million of "personal wealth" he can burn easily, otherwise I can't see why he'd be stronger choice than Wallace.
Worse, there's a large number of conservatives who actually seem to believe Kirk's little dog and pony show about being adamantly against Obamacare. I hope no Illinois freeper is foolish enough to believe Kirk's routine. Of course he's going to pretend to be on our side now that he needs conservatives money and volunteers for a statewide race. Anyone who thinks Kirk is back on the reservation and genuinely changed his ways should consider what happened after he pulled the same stunt with "re-elect me because I support President Bush on the WOT" in 2006 and then promptly switched sides once he was returned to office. I don't trust Kirk as far I can throw him. He has proven he will say anything to get votes.
Now more than ever, getting conservatives on the same page in Illinois seems to be like trying to herd cats with a water pistol. I just wish we could get all these conservative candidates in a room together and have them emerge with ONE agreed upon consensus candidate that everyone else will agree to support. Draw straws if you must (and please nothing like 2006 where Oberweis says 'I should get a bigger straw because I have much better name ID, nevermind the fact I can't get elected dog catcher')
At least we can thankful the comptroller's race appears to have shaped up into a one-on-one battle between RINO combiner Topinka and conservative reformer Bill Kelly.
