Fine looking man. May he rest in peace.

My neighbor Alec was part of the Polish resistence during WWII. I bet Alec and a long line of fellow patriots are welcoming him in heavem now. You've reminded me to check on Alec's widow.

No...my family wants to go on the cheap. Best Western for us! LOL

We stayed at the Holiday Inn, which was nice. We could walk to all the touristy stuff we wanted to visit. The hobbit lass didn't like it because it wasn't haunted. She wanted to stay at the haunted Farnsworth House. We did eat there, but no ghosts. At least visit it. We bought one of the audio tapes and used it to tour the battlefield. It was pretty cool. We could rewind the narration and repeat stuff if we wanted. We could time our tour ourself and didn't have to crane our necks to see out a bus. Some friends told us about it. It was cheaper than taking a whole family on a bus tour, plus we still have the tape.

IMO, no matter which side they were fighting on they were all Americans and should always be honored as such.

I totally agree. Such a horrible, horrible war--and yet many of us have almost a romance with that period in our history. I suspect Gone with the Wind has a lot to do with that romance.

I tried to do some research on Kentucky during the war. My dad's grandfather was a preacher who was captured. But because he was a preacher they let him go. He spent the war going back and forth across the line, preaching to both sides. There was a spring on my grandfather's farm that was supposed to having healing powers. Both sides took injured troops there to heal. My mom's grandfather was supposedly a confederate general. Dad said anybody who owned his own horse was made a general. But all these people knew each other and their lives were intertwined so.

The line went right smack through Kentucky. If you run into any interesting KY info, please make sure you ping me.

My father has been numerous times and considers himself a Gettysburg expert. He wants to lead the tour... so, I'll let him (got to humor the old man)...

I'll check out the House.

Just got some news that may be putting the whole trip in limbo...

He wants to lead the tour...

Hey, if he's real good, you can make tapes and sell them to other tourists! Hope you still get to go.

Teller was a great scientist and great patriot. For that he was mocked and villified, even in some of the obits I read.

I loved 'Gettysburg' because it was so clear in the movie that the men on both sides were so brave and good. Take a look at this.

That's good to hear Matt. You are right to wonder what will happen next. As the days go by the liberal press may try to twist it all. I hope not. Thank you for keeping us up to date.
