Thanks. I also found this site which says "jeep" came from the designation "GP" (e.g. G=Government P="P" platform [80" wheelbase]). Apparently it was nicknamed jeep instead of gupp thanks to a previous cartoon character. The word 'jeep' made its debut in Elzie Segar's comic strip "Thimble Theatre Starring Popeye" on March 3, 1936, as the cry of a small, odd-looking creature soon identified as "Eugene the Jeep." :

Except for not knowing how to read a compass and running all over the map, she's a damn good shot!!Oh yeah? Hmmm. I can read the compass but there are always walls and stuff in my way, then I have to go around them and get way off course.
I will agree with you that once I get you in my sights, I am a good shot. :-)

Another fat little plane that I'm guessing can land on water? Yep. And you don't see too many low-wing seaplanes, but this is one.

Good morning aomagrat.
The USS BUSH was named in honor of Marine Lieutenant William Sharp Bush. Lt. Bush was killed on August 19, 1812 while serving aboard the USS CONSTITUTION. It was on this date that the CONSTITUTION earned her nickname "Old Ironsides" during her famous battle with the British frigate HMS GUERRIERE (a French built ship captured by the British in 1806). The GUERRIERE cannon balls just seemed to bounce off the sides of the mighty CONSTITUTION. As the two ships collided in the late afternoon, Lt. Bush was killed by a musket shot to his face as he prepared a contingent of Marines for potential boarding of the GUERRIERE. Lt. Bush was the first U. S. Marine officer to be killed in combat.

Good morning tomball. Thanks for sharing about your neighbor. I haven't heard a WWII story yet that wasn't interesting and amazing. It's too bad more of them didn't talk about their experiences.
