As far as soldering goes forget the propane torch and go with a MAPP torch, if you haven't used one you will be glad you did.

I went to the orange borg since I hadn't seen one at the blue borg last night. I actually found it. Our local orange borg seems to cater to decorating more the actual systems, so I don't have luck finding stuff often.

Anyway, the joint still leaked, so I did plan B. It's holding fine.

I am happy to report I have in confirmed the existence of the Doofus Factor through expirimental means. My 1/2 hour store the ladder project took exactly 1 day. {e.g. double the coefficient, and increment the time unit}
