The 2 different colors of blue are very traditional and significant. During the 1800’s and in the Cavalry western outposts, the Jacket was used specifically for cememonies and “dressy” occasions, and were stored away. The pants were used and worn daily, and thus became sun bleached and worn. The Army, keeping the tradition alive (for once), kept the off setting colors for this fact.

I think the Army should return to the classic brown/khaki Class A of the 30’s and 40’s.

That Class A Officer looks like he should be playing the bass drum in the Salvation Army marching band. ;)

Why not just go back to the WWII-era Eisenhower-style uniforms? Blue is OK, but they need to go back a lot further in history for styling cues.

“Except for the stupid beret”

The Cavalry used to be the ones who wore the black beret, until the Rangers whined about it at some point.

“As an aside, my AOB class got informally polled on what distinct uniform we’d like for armor. We put in for black coveralls, and a black p*sscutter, all trimmed in Armor yellow, with tanker boots and either a branch scarf or black turtleneck. They turned it down. Reminded them of something they’d seen before.”

LOL

"Look at what former General Merrrill McPeak did to the Air Force Uniforms."

Oh you mean this?

"Make it so Number One." ROFLMAO!

That was the LAST Chief of Staff, General Michael Moseley little folly.

He was trying to reinstate the style of uniform from the 1920s... or something.. when that picture was released.. I was happily within two months of going on Terminal Leave for retirement.

Now, at 21 years out, I’d be happy just to still fit into my Class A’s.

I love the early-40’s version of the Class A’s with the garrison belt. And the Ike jacket that came in later was bad-ass.

I am an honorably discharged Veteran of the Regular Army. I served from 1983-89, and left as an E5. I was a 13Bravo20-Gunner/E5. I had a slight break in service (approx 20 mos), but was on active duty for nearly 4 and one-half years before I was medically separated (STILL HONORABLE) for injuring my back. Anyway, sorry for the digression. Since I was in combat arms, I did not have many opportunities to wear my class A uniform. When I did, I wore my greens with pride and in accordance with regulations. I did not purchase the Dress Blues, as I did not need them. Also, my medical discharge from the Army ended my plans to make it a career (I was about to submit a fully approved OCS packet). In a nutshell, I CONSIDER IT A MISTAKE ON THE PART OF THE ARMY TO GET RID OF THE DRESS GREENS. The Blues should be retained for ceremonial purposes only, and not become general issue. The blues, from what I have been told by guys who have them is a high maintenance uniform and isn’t as durable as the greens. Can you picture folding a dress blue uniform and stuffing it in a duffel bag like the greens? I can’t picture it. I think the Army is making a big mistake. Also, it was pure bull***t to deprive the Rangers of the Black Beret.
