IMO, the biggest concern about Trent Lott is NOT what he said about Strom Thurmon. That was just a dumb mistake, imo. But what really bothers me is the way the whole Clinton trial was handled. There were a lot of Clinton abuses that Lott seemed way too willing to overlook.

No SW, we are not, at least not in public schools. That is, unless it is sanitized, modified, and run through the PC filter to insure that no one is offended or upset by it...
To: SAMWolf
Exactly! And you have to wonder why.

At least my kids learned it. My daughter is studying to be a History teacher and it seems some times she's more informed than her instuctors.

Well, that's just pathetic. They aren't teaching anything! That makes me so mad, because when the jerks from Germany and France start to make comments about ignorant Americans, they are hitting the nail on the head! And that really ticks me off! I was told by a German (nastily, I might add) that the European children knew far more about America then we did! He said we were all stupid patsies for the Government and we simply don't know our fate yet. Now, of course, some of that is garbage, but some of it is true. Why would the PC/lib crowd want this to happen to America? And why are some of our conservative leaders going along with it? This stinks!

Good for your daughter! But what about the kids who are getting graded according to their political views? Has your daughter suffered from that travesty yet? I now kids who have.

You know, many times when my kids brought graded papers home from school I had to go back and correct the teachers. So many parents are so busy now that they can't do that!

Not yet, she's always managed to "argue" her way out of any debates over political views.

Nobody has ever looked for the lost guns of the Custer Battle as far as I can tell. I have some ideas about where to look. The indians who surrendered to reservations in 1876-77 had to surrender firearms. They wouldn't be foolish enough to surrender captured Custer guns. There was near-universal fear among the indians of admitting to the white man their presence at the battle.
The indians were armed with a variety of arms at the battle. Some had Henry's and Winchester repeating rifles which were superior in firepower to the cavalry Springfields. I can see the guns would quickly have been considered "radioactive" and something to hide.
For a number of practical reasons, I believe the guns were hidden within a two-day ride of the battle.

Thanks for adding the background information on Sitting Bull and Crazy horse. Well, I got curious, because you hear of what happened before and during the Battle, but not really alot afterwards.
What I find odd, is that the US Army does not appear to have been was not out for blood revenge after Custer's Last Stand. You would think they would of been looking for the heads of Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull.
Instead, they seemed to have respected them, because of the butt-kicking handed to them. One sees efforts to settle Crazy Horse (who chose to roam free and not live on a reservation) and Sitting Bull became a part of the White Man's Celibrity class of that time, as opposed to just tarring and feathering them and their families.
Crazy horse's death is suspicious (maybe not as spur of the moment as the Army would like one to think), but there definitely seem to have been opportunities for Crazy Horse to live (albeit in captivity) if he chose to.
This is all interesting and puzzling, seeing as how it was the late 1800's, in which history (and film) often portrays it as a very ignorant, mean time for America.
Maybe Custer had an attitude that died with him.

I think the case of Comanche is more of a footnote deal..... Once I had told S-2, the reponse was, "Oh the horse from the movie..." It wasn't that they didn't know, it was the fact that he wasn't a Disney creation that sort of confused them... For most people, the Litte Big Horn is a battle, and the name Custer comes to the front, not a horse. Most history texts don't even mention Comanche, much less say anything about him.
SW, I am glad to hear that your daughter is following in her father's footsteps, as you seem to have a sound understanding and appreciation of history and have already taught me a thing or two since I've been following this thread. Keep up the outstanding work!
