I just want to wish everyone on this thread a wonderful Memorial Day. May we all keep in our hearts and prayers the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep the United States of America free and strong.

"There are some women for which this is not true"

We'll Duh - This thread is about strategies, advice, insight, general theories as well as anecdotal information about the successes and failures of freepers. To all of those out there feeling picked at, criticized or slandered ... please give yourself a break. No ill will is intended by the advice givers. As I tell my kids - if the shoe don't fit - don't wear it, but don't lash out at the messenger for offering advice that doesn't fit your stuation.

The first several years of my marriage, it never occured to my husband that taking care of my needs would have anything to do with the bedroom - sex was for him and hugs/footrubs/roses/slow dances were for me. He needed to learn that sex should be as satisfying for me as it was for him. Note - that doesn't mean every "O" for him means that I must have one too - just that I deserved one when I wanted one as much as he deserved one when he wanted one. What it takes to satisfy me is different than what it takes to satisfy him. (I never said they were equal). It is his attutude that he considers my satisfaction as much as he considers his owen that makes me chase him. I am eager to initiate becasue my needs will be taken care of too. It also gives me a better sense of generosity to tell him yes (and then not just lie there like a dead alligator!) when I am not in the mood and he is. Knowing that there is give and take makes me happier to give. He had to learn that making it better for me also made it better for him.

We have a friend who used to proudly boast that his wife gets his paycheck and he gets sex - which was all he needed. This comment was always irrutating to me, so even though I am not his wife, I asked him one time after he said it if that meant that he and his wife had a john- prostitute relationship, because if that was the case, he shouldn't be making her do housework becasue prostitutes didn't have any other duties - they got to take the money and run when the sex was over. He got a little flustered and a little embarassed and apologetically said that it was just a joke - he was never implying that his wife was nothing more than a concubine that did chores. Most women would think he was a sexist pig for the paycheck/sex remark. Some (not all) men don't say this out loud, but they treat their wives as if sex was their reward rather than a mutual two-participant expression of their bondedness. Our culture at large certainly doesn't promote this viewpoint. Yes, more mature men have likey learned this wisdom along the way.

Some women don't care to utilize the bedroom - they either have a genuine health disorder or believe too much propaganda from the wrong group. (NOW considers marriage legalized rape through some twisted reasoning - I obviously disagree with them vhemenantly!) She is choosing to lose out herself if she won't try. Likewise he is losing out if he won't try. (Don't wear that shoe if it doesn't fit!)

Just because it worked for me doesn't put me in the majority and just becasue it doesnt work for you doesn't put you in the majority. The outcome of the population at large determines whether it is the exception or the rule. Very few women that I know of express complete disdain for sex, so I think that group of women is small compared to the group of "normal" women. I believe that the potential rewards make it worth a try.

Good evening, Mr. Sam, and all,

The kamikaze business was actually very effective. I can't say if the Japanese could have turned things around that way, though without nuclear weapons it probably would have meant Russian occupation of most of Japan.

Another thing to remember is that kamikaze gave the Japanese the greatest destruction of American ships and morale and men for each aircraft and pilot lost. Kamikaze was, for the Japanese, actually the least wasteful tactic in terms of man and machine. It saved Japanese lives, not wasted them. Harsh and difficult, but true.

Me, I prefer smart bombs, unless we could get Bill and Hillary, et al., to be our guided bomb pilots!

Try WBIII anyway. It has a steep learning curve and there are always bombers for folks resigned to fly in a straight line.

Hello SAM

Listening to a veteran share about Okinawa is hard....they want us to understand what they went thru..but you can see their countenence fall as they share.

Off Okinawan waters there were many dispostions..such as radar picket...ping line...inner transport screen.

Tin cans -DD's and smallboys- DE's would form up in the early evening and screen transports and fleet big boys as they headed out to sea away from Okinawa on night retirement.

One got little sleep if any..constant snoopers...."Bettys" dropping mines just out of 5" range.

Inside a destroyer, men not assigned to duty station would sit and listen to what unfolded..they could hear the 5" mounts going off..then the 40mm tubs would light up...when the 20mm guns opened up,the crews would become agitated as that meant the attacker was inside 2000 yards.

In the morning..DD's and DE's would seperate to callfire missions or to relieve other U.S. ships on station.

Have a photo of USS Isherwood taken on April 16th from USS Mt Mckinnely....DD-520 is headed toward the sinking of Destroyer USS Pringle some 75 miles away on Radar Picket.

By the time she arrives Pringle has broke in 2 and dissapeared....USS Laffey passes by a smashed hulk on her way to Kerrama Retto.[The TBS call sign for Kerrama Retto was "Wisemans cove"...but with all the trashed ships anchored their the cold comment from crews was "Wisemans Junkyard" ]

After looking for survivors from USS Pringle...DD-520 assumed USS Laffeys radar picket station

They were relieved 4 days later...some of the crew I met said that no one could sleep while they were out there.

On April 22nd USS Isherwood was jumped by 3 vals...one crashed her aft..the depthcharges on the starboard side errupted killing many who were fighting the fires...tore up pretty bad...she limped into "Wisemans Junkyard".

The Island of IE SHIMA...part of the Okinawan chain had a large strato Volcano which looked a bit like Suribachi on Iwo Jima.

Most of the Kamikaze pilots after the first Big assult wave on April 6th were novice fliers..many could not navigate.

The Destroyers assigned to Radar picket in the North and North West corner of the outlying Picket ring 75 miles out recieved the brunt of the Kamikaze attacks..which came from Formosa and China, allong with the south route from Japan.

The Kamikazes were told to look for the volcanic mountian as a vector point..then they would break in to the inner Ping line[Sub hunting]..or inner transport area.

The ping line stations near IE SHIMA.. A34A TO A38A were constantly assailed.

Survival time on outer radar picket screen in this area was less than 4 days.

Eventually..the Army set up a bank of radar guided artillery on IE SHIMA..late April i think.

Still...Chester Nimitz pressed the U.S. ground Commander on Okinawa..."For God sake hurry up..I'm loosing a Ship a day"!

Thanks for the info on waht the DD's and DE's went thtough on picket duty. Those ships took a lot of the attacks meant for the larger ships.
