$TORMY WEATHER (The Weather Channel sued by Former Anchor who Claims She was Fired for Age)
New York Post ^ | January 7, 2005 | TODD VENEZIA

A storm of controversy has engulfed The Weather Channel, after a 40-something former anchor accused network brass of washing her out of a high-ranking job to make way for a hot front of sexy young weatherwomen.

Marny Stanier Midkiff, 42, this week filed a lawsuit claiming she was booted in the fall of 2003 as part of a reputed "reorganization" of the storm channel, which she believes was really an excuse to get more young female weathercasters on the air.

I'm as much appreciative as any man the good looking wholesome babes and the men are "suits". It is sad that burger Boy refused to lose weight so we could see the map. I wonder if he accepted a position behind the camera or if maybe he too will sue for discrimination against fat old people.

You can bet if she was at entry level... displacing an older person would not have bothered her in the least...

Quit...get a good recommendation and go someplace where you are appreciated... rather than forcing (suing) someone to keep you against their will...

imo

Ever see the new one Nicole Mitchell? She'd break your binoculars.

THAT's the one I'd SWEAR was Marlon Fitzwater's daughter!

I believe I have a mental image of the weather guy you mean, he was like a face from home too when we were traveling and turned the motel TV to the weather channel. He's been gone quite a while.

You are absolutely right, he should sue and collect a bundle as well. He was replaced by what appears to be body builders wearing suits, making their motive for dumping him obvious.

Like you say, he may be working either behind or off camera some place.

We need photos.

If they want the hottest weather bunny, they'll have to steal her from Fox NFL Sunday.

Her lawyer is going to have his work cut out for him to convince anyone in a court of law that a 42 year old woman was fired because of her "old age."

I probably would be fired because of old age---I'm 82.

I may need to get my eyeglass prescription changed, but I'm pretty darn sure that isn't Willard Scott. Yikes.

She wrote him back a letter assuming he was ten years old.

"...so why not hire some tart that at least looks good while she's reading a teleprompter? "

The goal is to look alluring:) (at least through to the other side of the camera)

As an older woman, I think this kind of thing is really, really wrong. I don't expect the meterologist to look like a train wreck, but I don't turn to the channel to see a "hottie" giving the weather. In my opinion, a lot of people will find their weather information in other places.

A hottie weatherwoman with the meteorological mind of Jim Cantore, is what I want to watch.

There are an awful lot of other old standbys still around for this to have been the reason.

Try this when posting on FreeRepublic;

Type in the word weatherman. Next, type in the word weatherwoman. Then hit the "Spell" button.

Maybe, Marny needs to sue about this too.

Wait a second.

The Weather Channel fired Marny? I didn't know that. Marny was a good meteorologist and she was easy on the eyes. It's Leisure Suit Larry Schwartz that is an embarrassment. I'm waiting for him to break out into a Joe Isuzu routine (There's going to be global warming, trust me) NO DOUBT HE WOULD FIND MY COMMENTS A COMPLIMENT.

Also, how can they fire her for her age? WC used the old geezer John Hope http://www.ngeorgia.com/people/hope.html worked until the year he died. HOPE WAS BORN 1919! Grandpa Moses had nothing on this man.

And speaking of John Hope (though I should not speak badly of the dead), how can you pay attention when you saw his gangly, chicken neck flashing while trying to watch the map? And that accent! Half the time I had no idea what he was saying because he sounded like the two headed space monsters on Sesame Street (Yup yup yup aha aha aha yup yup aha aha). How did remain on the Weather Channel? He founded the thing.

Marny fired is a travesty.

Storm Stories comes in first for my favourite program.

Storm Stories does not belong on The Weather Channel. I don't know how many times severe weather came rolling through southeast Texas here, and when I turned to The Weather Channel to find out what was going on, a &%#* Storm Stories segment was on instead. The Weather Channel is losing focus presenting their Storm Stories segments when they do.... if they're so proud of them, why don't they play them in the morning or some other time? Severe weather occurs at any time of the day, and reporting the details of it is their job. I am and will remain very much against The Weather Channel showing Storm Stories... these segments should be on The Learning Channel or The Discovery Channel where they belong.

Regarding the Marny Stanier claim, I always throught she was quite professional and better than most of the meteorologist staff on the channel. I'm unhappy seeing her pushed out. Alexandra Steele, however, they can do without... a little ditzy for my liking. In a former life I worked as a meteorologist so I like facts, charts, maps, and satellite pictures.... but NOT DITZ!

I never worked as a meteorologist, but I agree wholeheartedly with all else you said.

One thing I can say, though, is that Dr. Jon Nese, their on-air Storm Analyst is a great meteorologist and a heck of a nice guy in real life.
