12 October 2001 A Tribute to Barbara Olson, Fallen Heroine(Friends gathered at Capitol Hill Club) (390) By Eric Bartholomay Washington File Staff Writer Washington -- The Conservative Women's Network lunch at the Capitol Hill Club opened with close friends of Barbara Olson reflecting on her "vivacious spirit, her gracious hospitality, her love of truth, and her desire to take action when a situation did not meet with her approval." People who had been close to Barbara Olson gathered at the club October 12 to pay tribute to their lost friend. Mrs. Olson, wife of U.S. Solicitor General Ted Olson, was killed on September 11 when American Airlines Flight 77 was hijacked by terrorists who crashed it into the Pentagon on a suicide mission. In her last moments Olson, using her cell phone made two "courageous calls" to her husband asking for advice to give the pilot. Friend Virginia Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, likened Olson's death to the tragedy of the World Trade Center towers saying her personality was to her friends "what the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were to the New York skyline. We are left with this smoking, gaping hole that we simply can't begin to fathom." President Bush, whose case Mr. Olson argued before the U.S. Supreme Court last January during the Presidential election primary in Florida, shared Olson's enormous faith in her husband. Olson was remembered as a strong individual who "didn't shrink from risk or from confrontation." Some described her as an advocate for truth who did not sit on the sidelines and "died how she lived, on the front lines, courageous." Her friends refuse to see Olson as "a victim" and instead consider her a "casualty of war" who died with honor. As a Republican activist, best-selling author and radio-television commentator, Olson was known for "tracking down documents to prove allegations about certain Washington alligators." This "fallen heroine" is the well-known author of Hell to Pay and her recently released book, The Final Days: The Last Desperate Abuses of Power by the Clinton White House. Mr. Olson sees The Final Days release as the last say by his wife in her passionate conservatism. Anyone who cares about her or remembers her ought to buy her two books. They are a lasting tribute to her determination and spirit for truth and justice.
One of many sad, senseless losses that day. God bless you, Barbara.
And this wonderful paragraph is on a State Department, tax-supported website! Fantastic! And we all know who the "alligators" are!
Bump!
[Ping to BKO, wherever God has you working now]
Thank you Conservative Women's Network.
The more Barbara Olson is honored the more truth will get out. She was a great patriot.
