McKinney lambastes media

Dissenting opinions on war are ignored, she says

By BEN SMITH

Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer

U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.), unapologetic for stepping into a flap over a Saudi Arabian prince's rejected $10 million gift for terrorism victims, on Saturday criticized the news media for failing to air dissenting opinions on the current Middle East crisis and the war in Afghanistan.

"They don't want you to hear these other voices out there," McKinney said at a public forum in Clarkston. "Help me come up with a strategy to get through this white noise that's been put out 24 hours a day."

McKinney has been the focus of widespread condemnation and praise since she wrote a letter to Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal to apologize for New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's rejection of his donation to the families of victims in the Sept. 11 attacks. Giuliani refused the gift after bin Talal suggested U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East was partly to blame for the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The congresswoman, who has a long history of igniting rage and praise from her constituents and others with controversial remarks, complained that her views on U.S. foreign policy and Israeli mistreatment of Palestinians have not been placed in a wider context. She criticized news outlets for not covering a Washington press conference on Thursday attended by Jewish peace activists who agree with her Middle East positions.

The vast majority of those who attended McKinney's "dialogue on the Sept. 11 tragedy" also appeared to side with her.

"There is hatred of America throughout the world," said Mohammad Tunkara, 31, a native of Senegal attending business school in metro Atlanta. "There is not hatred against the American people. We love you but we don't love your foreign policy. America should be a leader of the world, not the manager of the world, and give people what they need in terms of justice."

Native-born Americans at the forum tended to turn the discussion toward domestic problems of race, the influence of money in politics and the environment.

Only two of the 150 people attending the event voiced criticism of McKinney.

"What are you going to do to stop another 5,000 people from being killed just because we can't solve all of the world's problems?" asked Mary Louise Freeman, 73, of Stone Mountain, raising her voice at McKinney. "You're my congresswoman, too."

The media should cover dissenting opinions in preportion. About 6% are against the war so they should get about 6% of the coverage, id say they get a hell of alot more than that.

I suppose, that "wider context" would be the deep hatred of the Western civilization, harbored by Cynthia "Gimme 10 millions" McKinney

Could her complaint about "white noise" be construed as a racial slur?

Cynthia has been making some mighty dark sayings lately.

I was about to ask the same question but then thought, did she really mean it that way? I certainly think its a veiled racial comment at the very least.

Thanks for posting this. After a long hard day of freeping I really enjoy a good humor thread to wind down with. I am particularly gratified that the silly people who elected this comedian are getting just what they deserve. Just cracks me up.

Who in the world would vote for this gal?

She is getting way too much media attention. . . which is exactly what she wants. Otherwise it would be McKinney, who?

Rep. McKinney continues to sleep with the enemy, blissfully unaware of the error of her ways. I am ashamed to have this head case representing our great state of Georgia. Unfortunately, I am familiar with her district and would not hasten to bet that she will win re-election. Her followers are as blind as she is...and loyal to no end. Perhaps she could join Reps Condit and Lee for the next mission to Mars...with no round-trip availability.

Don't you love all the whining from the left lately about their opinions being "silenced"? For God's sake, they've had the run of the media for decades, yet they have the nerve to caterwaul now because suddenly they find their half-assed views are distinctly in the minority. They still get more air time being in the 5% group then conservatives ever have being the 40% and higher category. They mistake no one wanting to hear their anti-American drivel with being forced to shut up.

I wouldn't be surprised. She's a racial profiteer. Did you read that letter she sent to the Saudi prince? She just couldn't help herself from whining about the "plight" of blacks in America.

Just playing the race card, once she pulled it out anything said about what she did was labeled as racist by her followers.

Someone tell this treasonous dolt that 9-11 wan't a "tragedy". It was a sneak attack on the sovereign territory of the United States of America that killed thousands of innocents. It was an attack on our economic base. It was an attack on freedom. It was planned and executed by fanatical terrorists working on behalf of hostile foreign governments. McKinney should crawl back under her rock where she belongs.

Do we make muzzles that fit her mouth? Someone find one please.

I think they call it a ball gag. Check with Condit. I think he's got a few.

Muzzles? Well the muzzle of a Colt and Wesson isn't that big. And we all know she is the biggest loudmouth in Georgia.

God can't we just bitchslap this woman? I mean seriously. If Jesse's a race warlord this woman is a race overlord.
