Red Cross Diverts Donations
The American Red Cross admitted today that some of the $550 million in donations to a special fund established for the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will be used for other things instead.
"It takes a lot of money to do a lot of work. We believe very much that we are honoring donor intent," Red Cross spokesman Mitch Hibbs said. "Yes, we are helping the families, but we're also helping everyone else."
Philanthropic watchdogs, though noting the Red Cross meets high standards overall, said the group has not clearly publicized its distribution plans for the Liberty Fund, the Associated Press reported today.
"We've begun to receive inquiries from the public raising questions about the distributions of 9-11 funds," said Bennett Weiner, a spokesman for the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance, in Arlington, Va. "I think the public certainly expects the 9-11 relief organizations to follow through" by helping the victims of the attacks.

They receive millions but hand out coffee and donuts.

I can't believe I was that close to donating to them thinking they'd do the right thing. I'm glad I didn't follow through with the donation.

I will never donate money to the Red Cross again. NEVER!NEVER! NEVER!
I do have a question though: A friend of ours stated that anything the Red Cross does give you monetarily would have to be repaid in some way shape or form. Is that true or a lot of hot air?? Just curious! Thanks!

Don't forget, they also kept on collecting blood long after they knew they wouldn't be able to use it all!
So they are going to have to destroy about 15,000 pints, as they are past the deadline for use!!

Gee ummmm I hope they spend it well.
Do they really believe they're going to get any more large donations again after this crap?
I'll never give'em a dime again!! I can fetch my own coffee....

"They had better enjoy this windfall because no one will ever donate a penny to them again. Bastards

Good for Bernadine Healy for resigning over this and for Israel being excluded from the International Red Cross.

Didn't they refuse to open their books the other week? With $550M of our money I think we have a right to see where it is going. Or do they not have accounting rules setup for this? 1/10th of 1% of that is $550k ... enough to make someone happy for a number of years.

Money for bimbos, money for junkets, money for the Red Crescent, money for Europe.
The Board of the Red Cross should be jailed for theft.

Unfortunately for some of us, the vast majority of Americans are idiots!
In 6 month's "The Red Cross" will show a bunch of people repairing a levy and the money will flow again!!

Actually, the collected extra blood will go to establish their new strategic frozen reserves.

Won't give to the Red Cross or the United Way. Mom learned about the Double Cross when she was in the Army. None of my extended family will give to them. As a Scouter, I won't give to the U.W. Still drop dollars in the bucket at Christmas time though. Haven't heard anything bad about the Salvation Army.

Given the apocalyptic tone of some of the terror threads going around this evening, they may well need to divert some of the donations to other soon-to-be terrorist-caused disaster(s).

I'm sorry that I got duped after 9-11 into giving to the Red/Double Cross. Never again though.
I am glad that I gave the largest amounts to the Salvation Army and the Fire Fighters family's fund and the least portion to the Red Cross.
It's too bad one needs to live and learn this way...but on the other hand, they do have to answer to God someday.

That would be great, but that isn't that blood products?
As I understand it whole blood cannot be frozen, only blood components meaning plasma and maybe "the clotting factor."
However, the fact remains they perpetrated a fraud, the continued begging when not in need!
