It’s amazing to see just how confident people are in out military today. Could it be that one of our military guardians shot this plane down? Yes. Could it be as simple as a mechanic pencil whipping the inspection log and overlooking serious structural flaws in a 14-year-old aircraft that has made thousands of trips? Yes. Could it be that a terrorist took out another plane and the government doesn’t want to put at risk our lucrative transportation system further and decimating our economy by suppressing what they know? Yes.

But to insinuate that our military is trigger-happy and are now engaged in a cover-up is just wrong. Our pilots are not eager to shoot down a fully loaded civilian aircraft without full knowledge that something is very wrong. Please don’t forget that our military is doing what is being asked of them in the highest tradition of military service: Protecting our way of life, our freedoms, and to put it quite bluntly – your ass!

If that plane had been taken over by a true terrorist intent on slamming it into another building and the military failed to stop it you’d be screaming that they are inefficient and deserving of unspeakable punishment. If the react too quickly to our demands to protect the American public they are labeled incompetent and again deserving of unspeakable punishment and lengthy prison terms to boot.

You place the military in a no win situation and subject them to ridicule and suspicion at every turn. The very people who of their own free will, decide to place their lives in front of yours to ensure your safety. Have you never made a mistake in your life? What kind of training do you think they get to remove the ability to make a snap decision in a highly fluid situation and not get it wrong?

And don’t think that the military is the only one who chooses to place his life and liberties in jeopardy because that’s the job he chose to take. That cop driving around all day watching out for the bad guy made that decision too. So did the fireman down the street who would just as soon burn himself to the bone than let your little girl get her hair singed in a fire in your own house.

How about being a little more patient with the conspiracy theories and let the TSB figure out what really happened before we suspect Black Helicopters shooting planes out of the sky.

Sorry for the slam but the thrust of this thread really irks me and I think it’s wrong.

"It could have also been an act of sabotage during maintenance?",

This is my worry. However the plane was old and it has a history of problems.

"3. Depending on the altitude of the aircraft when the "engine came off", and the distance "off-shore" where the stabilizer and other "light" parts fell in Jamaica Bay it is conceivable that the engine could have knocked these parts off. The engine would have dropped almost vertical but the lighter parts could have been blown back the several blocks toward Jamaica Bay."

I think this is the best explanation I've seen yet. Thank you for offering it.

--hey! I'm only asking questions! Wasn't stating any absolutes. Outlining all the possibilites, all of them, and that's it.

It wasn't ME gave a shootdown order if there's another terrorist skyjacking, it was the president and the military bosses he orders around, not ME.

And no, if it was my call, I wouldn't do that, I'd ARM the dang civilian pilots, and let people who are non-criminal "keep and bear" as they are supposed to, if they want to, and follow THE LAW, and not ignore it like the prez and the military do. I would NOT order our military to shoot down an airliner, NOPE, I would insure that any terrorist had about zero chance to get to the point of a hijacking occuring, in ADVANCE, not react clumsily after the fact, like what is going on now.

This government is reacting after the fact of a terrible blow to our nation, DESPITE being warned repeatedly, over and over, by all kinza people in different walks of life over the years, including their own studies you and me paid for, including intel that terrorist cells were infiltrating, including people who tried to present credible evidence of who was what in the terr community who were PROTECTED by the fbi.

I don't know if this latest incident is an accident like they say now with the birds, it sure might be, or a terrorist attack, or an emergency shootdown, or all of the above or none of the above, but I will state this government, the one preceding it, the one before that, have consistently ignored common sense, and have wasted our assets, and have followed weird orders, and have been derelict of duty by following illegal orders, or have failed to act in a timely manner when it comes to domestic terrorism, and allowed millions and millions of illegal people inside the country. It's nothig I have advocated or spoken for, tell ya what. I have consistently spoken in favor of massively more controlled borders, not allowing every juan, muhammad or wonglee in because it's good for business when it's bad for security.

Goat herders over in afghanistan didn't do these attacks, weirdos that were freely allowed into the country against common sense did the attacks. They are still here by the thousands probably, too. They are to blame, not someone on an internet forum who dares to ask possibly embarassing questions. And governments 'fix' for that little reality they crearted? Basically wham bam suspended the constitution, what small amount of it is left, that's all, nuthin big....

You do not lock your door AFTER you get robbed, you do not go out and purchase your first defensive carry piece AFTER you have gotten mugged or raped, you don't wait until the engine grinds to a halt to check your oil. The government has been doing that, and more, in spades, that's the primary reason the attacks happened and were successful, because government only reacts to blunders, and especially if some fatcats can make millions by creating blunders on purpose. The government insists that their way is proper, I say it's STUPID and lacks even the most base level of common sense, and a ton of what they do is obviously illegal, unconstituional, and just plain wrong, it's LAME in other words.

That's the difference between my mode of thinking and officially approved and sanctioned government thinking and actions.

I'll praise government when it does something good, on the appropriate forum and thread, and at a venue dedicated to that, or in meatworld, where like today we said 'thankyou" to the government worker at the post office doing her job, despite the fact of possible anthrax floating around the US mails. I thank them for having courage in the face of decades of rampant stupidity, and greedy profits over common sense national security. I praise that government worker I interacted with today, doing her job with a smile, but in this latest terr deal-ain't happpening, there's hardly a praisweworthy aspect to this whiole mess.

I am here on this forum at this time to question government, to help uncover decades of largesse and malfeasance, to ask the embarassing questions. If the plane crash yesterday was an accident, so be it, that's reality, anyone can deal with it, rather have an occassional accident than more heinous terr actions, or ordering some poor military pilot to be in a NO WIN situation of having maybe to be forced to shoot down a civil airliner. That's one of the crueler lamer things I have ever heard of out of any government workers mouth. it's rank, it's lame, it's misguided. I think that's a STUPID policy thought up by STUPID men. Ask those passengers, rather take a chance with a terr on the plane and the pilot and several other people being armed, or have no way for defense except get blown out of the sky by a missile? That's a no brainer to most people, but for government it's this big can't see it deal, their solution if there's another terr attack is to shoot the whole plane down-vboy if that ain't lame! And I condemn government for even hinting at option two, let alone making it the official policy. I'll take my chances with trusting my fellow americans to be armed and do what's necessary on any hijacked plane, I'll take the chance of them still not being able to subdue the attacker, over a guaranteed planeload of innocent people shot down by a missile if it's hijacked. The odds are heavy with my first choice in nothing more than a dead hijacker, and a safe landing, as opposed to governments choice of the entire plane crashing, killing all the people in the plane and whomever they smack into on the ground.

I support freedom, following the real law of the land, because it works and was written by INTELLIGENT people, who combined brains and courage into a package that was a winner, but has since been ignored and perverted. And also an end to what has turned into the dictatorship of the bought off executive branch and their lapdog legislature and their STUPID, low IQ, short sided policies.

Anyone else can support who or what they want to, or whatever government policy they want to, but my choice is as stated.

Nothin personal to anyone. If anyone "you" work in government, and follow the law, and do your job, and have the courage to once in awhile not follow an illegal order, swell, I praise you, I don't mind a nickel you get, thanks for the efforts! This is what's supposed to happen! It's great, no problems!. If "anyone you" works in government, if you chicken out,if you are a wimp,if you follow illegal orders, help coverups go down by keeping your silence, well, no thanks, I wish you'd quit, go someplace safer where hard choices don't have to be made.

Government work is a service to your neighbor FIRST, it's not just any old job with benefits and guaranteed raises and a check and a pension first. There's the big difference there.

I sincerely hope this clarifies my positions on a few matters around here.
