You brought back some funny memories for us. My husband actually did keep his motorcycle in the house when we lived in Florida. It was a brand new 1974 Kawasaki 500, and he didn't want it to get stolen. We had no carpet though--the floors were terrazzo--people thought we were nuts.

We never get discrimated against...I think it's because we're all good looking dudes!!

Most people that discriminate these days, are living in the past...ie, "colors" that draw this type of attention. If a place sheltered one color in anothers's area, there tended to be problems. In the modern day era, this type of "head bustin'" between groups is rare....very rare.

"Biker Hooligan BUMP!"

Ah yes, BuMp! I did a BuMp monday night(11-12) when a Hamas suicide deer decided to try and take me out after sighting in my rifle at the Sportsman's club. It did a hole shot and bounded out right in front of me as I was cruising down the hwy. I steered to clear his ass, then he slowed down a bit and looked at me. Then I couldn't clear his hind quarters, so I braced for the impact. He took the bike out from under me and the bike and I slid down the hwy. What a mess! As I slid down the road I was going over all the parts on the sportster that were being ground off in my head. Thankfully I only imagined the side of the engine being ground up. The handlebar wiped my right thumb way out of place. That was the only injury I got.

YIKES! If it was like most deer, it probably ran off after you hit him; not having the decency to lie down right there so you can kick his skull in!

My brother had the same problem a couple years ago on his Honda Ace.

Glad to hear that's all that happened!

I was told by both that they took this action because some bikers have modified their exhaust system to make more noise than stock exhausts.

Apparently they don' know that loud pipes save lives. Wussie cage drivers.

I hope your brother didn't have too much problem!

Yep, the deer ran off. I sure did want to pop him in the oven! I think the locals will collect him yesterday, or today.

...cruiser pilots decked out in full leathers, with a soup bowl on their head

Hey, I resemble that remark!

3 years ago, I bought my hubby drag pipes for his Harley. I want people to HEAR him so they don't HIT him.

If your intent is to make him safer on his bike then don't stop with the loud pipes. Make him wear hunter orange, paint his bike florescent orange and put a strobe light on his florescent orange helmet. You do want to make him safer right?????

Tell you what, I'll make a deal with you: If you take those loud pipes off his bike, I won't insist on the florescent orange and I'll resist the urge to run him into a light pole after he has been sitting next to me at a red light revvin' his engine.....

that was NOT a nice thing to say and I take exception to those remarks.

My husband is a very careful and considerate rider unlike some cage drivers that you may resemble.

....and he already wears a reflective vest because of people like you.

Have you ever rode a bike? Motorcyclists (a/k/a Bikers) have to fight to keep themselves SAFE ON THE ROADS FROM YOU CAGEDWELLERS

I've probably ridden more miles on British bikes alone than you have on domestic. If the superior maneuverability, acceleration, and visibility we have as bikers isn't enough to keep you out of trouble, you aren't a safe rider. Those illegal noisemakers give all of us a bad name by annoying and distracting the majority of other motorists. Those like you are free to ride like that, and everyone else is free to refuse your business. The topic of this article is respect for motorcyclists. My point is that bikers shouldn't whine about not having the respect that they have done nothing to earn.

"Vast numbers of bikers purposely make their bikes louder than they need to be."

I understand that people make this complaint quite often, but I can't hear them over the cool sound of my Screamin' Eagle pipes.

I can't hear my pipes over the open intake on my Ducati 900

Yep, loud pipes do save lives but what worries me now is the new terrorism legislation that includes motorcycle clubs.

The California Special Sport has plenty of "GO" along with the show. It's fast, comfortable, and by far the best handling cruiser on the market. If you're not in the market for a new bike, I strongly suggest against taking one for a test ride! BTW What shop is this "up the road"? I'll check with my fellow Guzzisti to make sure it's a good one.

Loud intakes save lives. Ya mean it even drowns out the clutch rattle?
