The letter said:
"Howard Toxler ... 1st case of disease now blow away this dust so you see how the real thing flys. Oklahoma-Ryder Truck! Skyway bridge-18 wheels."
This note, which misspells Troxler's name even though it's spelled correctly on the envelope, appears to be a threat of anthrax and also a truck bomb on the St. Petersburg Skyway Bridge, but it seems to be a fake.
Here's a photograph of the envelope:
I agree. From the look of the envelope and the tone of the letter, it certainly does look like a copycat. It raises a question though: Could a copycat (any copycat) also have anthrax spores and prepare a second wave of anthrax letters?
Good find! Does anyone know of any photos on the web of other copycats/hoaxes? (The ones available on Yahoo of the photos released by the Justice Department are all I've seen.)
Maybe I'm missing something, but how can this "copycat" letter be dismissed as "unrelated" to the real anthrax attack? If this was received on the same date the real anthrax letters where mailed, then how could the copycat copy something that wasn't yet made public?
Unless they had prior knowledge of what was going to be mailed from New Jersey a few days later.
