The Knesset held a special session this morning on the 16th anniversary of Jonathan Pollard’s incarceration, at the request of MK Michael Kleiner (Herut).

Speakers from across the political spectrum addressed the Knesset and dozens of special guests, each demanding that the U.S. release Pollard.

In addition, former Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu will deliver a Torah lecture this evening in the Yeshurun Synagogue in Jerusalem. The lecture is the third in a year-long series of monthly Torah lectures on behalf of Jonathan Pollard, sponsored by the 'Committee to Bring Jonathan Home' of the Israeli Action Alliance.

Excerpts from the Knesset speeches:
MK Kleiner (Herut): "Without the information that Pollard brought us, information that did not endanger the United States, Israel would not have been even minimally ready for an unconventional-weapon attack against us. But the Israeli government's memory is short. It pushes the Pollard issue to the side [ungratefully]... The government does much to get dead bodies, but it is willing to bury Pollard alive… Peres, who has toured all over the world... shook hands with Powell, but didn't invest even one second in Pollard… Sharon, too, a brave officer who crossed the Suez Canal and brought us victory in the Yom Kippur War...didn't have the courage to stand in front of the US President and demand Pollard's immediate release.

MK Ophir Pines-Paz (Labor), who has visited Pollard in prison several times: "From visit to visit, I find him in worse condition, more depressed, with lower morale, feeling more and more abandoned by the Israeli government. The Knesset must turn to the American government and demand his immediate release, at least on a humanitarian basis - for he is simply rotting away in jail."

MK David Levy (Gesher): "The government must raise this issue on every occasion. This is its elementary ethical responsibility."

In Pollard's 60 minute's interview, aired not long ago, he was self righteous and unrepentant. On that alone, he should stay in prison for a long time, until he admits what he did and is genuinely regretful about it. Otherwise, let him stay where he is.....

Odd thing is... one of my family names is Pollard. They were a family of merchants who supplied the British Navy in the 16th century and then some of the descendents immigrated to America in the 17th century and were clerks, lawyers, gentleman farmers in Tidewater Virginia. I emailed him asking whether he knew anything about these roots. He actually answered and said he had no idea of the source of his family name but it's not Jewish.

Whine moan froth drool that's just a few of the emotions and behaviors I observe in the anti-Israel gang on the Pollard threads. Oh, did I mention rant? I don't mean the fair-minded passersby, just the usual suspects who find any excuse to whine moan froth and drool on any Israel thread.

Pollard is a traitorous bastard who deserves to rot in prison for the rest of his life...period. Forget about everything else. He sold his country out and he received what I consider a lenient sentence. He should have been executed along with the Walkers, Ames and all the other scumbags who have sold our secrets for personal or other gain. Israel needs to drop this issue and get over it.

Why is it anti-Israeli to want Pollard to do his time? Can't there be some other possible reason, outside of anti-Israeli sentiment, to not want him released early??? I got one.....

It's not anti-anything to want any criminal to do his time. I was Robert Hanssen to do his time and it's rotten that his wife is getting his life-long pension. My tax $$$ at work.
