The statement from the front page:
Now, on to something rather important. There have been press reports in recent days that have generated a reaction the likes of which I have never seen before from fans of Charlotte in the USA. If you do not know what I am talking about I am referring to the reaction from the reports in the New York Post and it's cousin in the UK, The Times. Before I say my bit, please read what Charlotte has said here. All I have to say is that this story was an example of trash journalism from start to finish and anyone who thinks it is more than that isn't reading objectively. To those who have felt the need to insult us I say #1 look at the facts and #2 if you really care about firefighters or police, go out and do something for them or better yet go up to a local one and give them a hug to thank them for what they do everyday. Insulting others and venting anger towards someone like Charlotte does no good whatsoever and only furthers the goals of those who precipitated the events of 11 September.
Her statement:
In a recent interview I did for the London Sunday Times, a number of my quotes were taken out of context and were subject to journalistic interpretation. This misrepresentation of my statements has been quite upsetting for me to read. Mr. Gerard questioned me on a wide range of issues, yet he distorted my views on a variety of topics including the New York Firemen, my appearance on Good Morning America and Sir Paul McCartney.
In a personal visit to Ground Zero to offer my respect and prayers, I was both moved and humbled by the experience, as anyone who witnessed the devastation for themselves will agree. The New York Firefighters display remarkable courage and sacrifice every day; their work and efforts at Ground Zero are an extension of that. To myself and others around the world, they are true heroes.
On the morning of November 12, I was in New York for a taping at Good Morning America. While I was getting ready, I learned of the crash of American Airlines Flight 587. I was horrified to learn of this tragedy and was immediately troubled, as I know people who live in the Queens area. The cancellation of my appearance was second to my genuine concern for the safety and whereabouts of these people, at the time of the crash. My deepest sympathies go out to all those who were affected by this tragedy.
As for the statements on Sir Paul McCartney, I have nothing but the greatest respect for him as a performer and as a person. His influence on peoples lives has been immense over his distinguished career and I can only hope to be such an inspiration to others as he has been.
I have an undying love for America and I would never choose to offend the place that holds a special place in my heart. America has embraced me and it has become a second home for me. I owe an immeasurable amount of gratitude to the American people and their acceptance of me and my music in the states. I apologize for any feelings that may have been hurt by this disgraceful reporters story and want to thank all those in America for their continued support.
Charlotte Church
She's a very talented girl (still little, but don't tell her that) but fame does funny things to people. She should just apologize and admit she was wrong. Everyone would forgive her. She's human and she still has a lot of growing to do. You don't learn, though, until you first admit the truth.
Gimme a break.
Now when I heard Deniece Graves sing at the national prayer service, now that was really breathtaking.
Look at the difference in skin tone between the hands and the face.
I especially like the part at the beginning where she morphs from a dizzy self-absorbed 15 year-old into a 40 year-old entertainment attorney.
