I went on opening night. Was amazing. About every 6 years or so, I have revisited the books.

My tinge of disappointment came from the rushed pace of the movie. It goes without saying that a movie cannot be all a book was - and the screen cannot compete on an even playing field with the imagination.

The movie is an accurate representation of the book. Yes, lots was cut out to truncate the story and make it fit a movie format. What they included portrayed the book fairly. Yet, in the process of fitting a 10-20 hour story into a 3 hour timeslot, it is rushed. The pleasure of the flight from Frodo's home takes but minutes. No clear high elf voices singing as they travel through the mountains at night. How I have longed to hear that sound.

The pleasures worth lingering over - the fabric of the story - which don't contribute to the plot, but multiply the pleasure were (perhaps of necessity) left out. Understandable, but sad.

Is it worth seeing? Absolutely. I will watch it again.

This is exactly the kind of thing I missed throughout the movie. I know that they couldn't do this kind of thing, they just simply could not do it all. My brain understands that, but my heart missed it much.

I still loved the movie. I loved that PJ was as true to the books as he was. I will await the release of the DVD with great anticipation.
