New GOP Finance Chairman Chosen Over Conservatives' Protests
Agape Press ^ | 1/21/02 | Fred Jackson

Posted on 01/21/2002 12:39:33 PM PST by truthandlife

It's official now. A man who advocates both abortion and homosexual rights is now the chief fundraiser of the Republican Party.

All last week, conservatives within the Republican Party fought hard against the White House nomination of Lewis Eisenberg to be the Party's national finance chairman. They argued his liberal views on key social issues go against the traditional grain of the GOP. But the protests fell on deaf ears.

Associated Press reports Eisenberg's appointment was confirmed Friday at the Party's annual winter meeting in Austin -- without dissent. Eisenberg is a founder of the liberal, pro-choice Republican Leadership Council, a group whose aim, according to pro-life Republicans, to purge them from the Party by raising money for liberal Republican candidates.

Placing Eisenberg's name into nomination was Mississippi Republican Michael Retzer, who says the Party needs liberals like Eisenberg to raise money. And he says the concern of conservatives over Eisenberg's liberal leanings are misplaced because the proper role for Party liberals is to raise money to support the goals of conservatives. He calls that part of the GOP's "big tent" philosophy.

But Gary Bauer, a former GOP Presidential candidate and now chairman of the group Campaign for Working Families, does not see it that way. He calls Eisenberg's appointment "insulting," and notes the liberal Republican has donated money to several liberal Democrats, and chose to give money to Walter Mondale instead of Ronald Reagan during the 1984 Presidential campaign.

Bauer predicts that with Eisenberg being responsible for recruiting big donors to the Party, it is safe to say that his friends -- liberal, Northeastern socialites -- will not share conservative Republican values.

Dan, I know you mean well but it sounds like you are deeply entrenched with the letter "R". Do you believe that if the Republicans become the majority party in Congress, the Presidency, the govenor seats around the U.S, etc. that we will have some kind of utopian society and all of our problems will end? Do you believe in conservatism or are you sold out to the letter "R" no matter who is elected (i.e. Bloomberg in NYC?)

"It's official now. A man who advocates both abortion and homosexual rights is now the chief fundraiser of the Republican Party."

As long as he's a good fundraiser and is loyal to the President, it shouldn't matter what his views are on these collateral issues. It really isn't anyone else's business because he's not running for anything.

"Your simplistic rants about why Schundler lost are naive at best and disingenous at worst.:

A political loss always has plenty of blame to go around, most of it falling into the lap of the voters. But this doesn't excuse the GOP bailing on Schundler the day he won the primary, and ignoring him into oblivion until it became a national embarrassment for them. How do you excuse the party hacks for simply not executing their duties during a pivital gubernatorial campaign? The NJ GOP is still smarting from the rift inside the party.

"Disingenuous?" "Naive?" Here's a newsflash: We had a governor's race here in NJ. The Republican Party didn't show up.

Eliminate Riordan(he's really a dem)

The last time I checked, Riordan has an "R" next to his name, and he has always called himself a Republican, as far as I know. Riordan is just like most of the RINOs that we apparently are supposed to love, because we're all just one big happy family under the "big tent".

At what point do conservatives stop kissing the feet of the RINOs, and start demanding that our voices be heard? Do you honestly believe that people like Racicot (RINO) and "William Blythe" Eisenberg are going to work to help get conservatives elected? For that matter, do you really believe that there wasn't a better choice for the fundraising role than this slimeball? If you do believe this, I have some riverfront property in AK that I'd like to sell you- really cheap!

"NJ has elected Jon Corzine, a socialist with no politcal experience and went heavily for Gore. "

And Lewis Eisenberg, former president of the NY/NJ Port Authority, has exactly the same background as Jon Corzine. So much so that he's been the GOP favorite for the upcoming senate race against Torricelli, especially after Lobiondo's announcement to pull out of the running. However, it would be unseemly for two millionaires, both buying their seats, both former Goldman Sachs executives, sitting on opposite sides of the aisle as the senators from New Jersey. Perhaps Bush brought him to Washington as a compromise while they decide who's really going to be allowed to run against Torricelli.

#29 is for you also.

I guess it doesn't matter either that in the early 1990's, Eisenberg, a married man with 3 children, lost his job at Goldman Sachs due to a sexual harassment lawsuit brought against him by a young woman with whom he had a 7-year affair?

According to you as long as your not running for anything this behavior is acceptable. Thank goodness for the private sector (sarcasm off).

Well, if we assume that the "young woman" was of legal age when the affair began, then she probably wasn't a "young woman" when the affair ended and she brought the lawsuit.

We need people who are willing to fight. Is he a fighter?

Sadly, yes. The White House is the one that is pushing pro-abortion and liberal Republicans like Richard Riordan in California.

How do the Republicans get away with all this? Because conservatives and Christians refuse to draw the line and refuse to accept candidates and parties that betray and sell them out.

Who cares what Bush says? What has he done to protect unborn babies? The vast majority support a ban on partial-birth abortion. But, here we are a year later with NO action.

Bush named the AIDS czar that believes in clean needles, condoms and gay marriage. He's the one selling out on food stamps and affirmative action. He's the one pushing a Republican more liberal than Hillary in California.

Not a compromise maybe, but maybe a bit of "strategery".

I'm extremely disappointed in this appointment. I'm with all of you in your sentiments.

I won't be donating for a while either. I will watch closely to see if this is a pattern.

No matter how you turn it,.. the Republicans just "whored" themselves. "Prostituted" themselves for money.

If they aren't going to stand on their principals, the ideals of their base, they will "lose" votes.

Did they ever wonder WHY so many Christians stayed home in the previous election? Could it have been that people were so sickened by their lack of a back bone during the impeachement? Now we find that many of those Christians who felt betrayed by the party,..were!!! David Schiffers book explains quite well how Trent Lott welcomed the house managers when they delivered the Articles of Impeachment.

So what do they do now? They further alienate thier base. They pick a guy who was sued for sexual harrassement,.. who is a pro choice liberal because they WANT money?? Do the words "selling your soul" sound familiar?

I think this was a HUGE mistake. Had they stuck to their "principals" I think they were gaining voters. I think people had come to realize that character does matter.. in fact at the cost of over 2,800 lives. Not to mention the many lives that will be lost.

They just lost future donations from me. In fact, I won't donate a penny to them while Eisenberg is the Committee Chair for fundraising. I stand by a code of ethics. It would be hypocritical of me to donate to anything Eisenberg asked me to.

You can't tell me there was NO OTHER qualified person in the whole Republican Party!!

That defies logic.

This is just sickening news. I'm extremely disappointed.

How come you don't mention that the AIDS czar Bush appointed is also very pro-life and was very active in the pro-life cause in Wisconsin.

Wow, you sound like the Democrats.

Yep, them RATs are so diverse that they refused to have a pro-life speaker at their convention. The RATs are 100% pure ... and like the mafia they don't tolerate division. You're the one who values purity and it's you who sounds like the Rats.

I wonder if these so-called Conservatives ever read what they post. When it's affirmative action, they are all for the best person for the job, yet if that person disagrees with them, then that person isn't the best. Gotta love the inconsistency.

BTW, I think that Mr. Evertz is nutty about his ideas on gay marriage and needle exchange, but I am surmising that you two would see eye to eye about abortion.(and isn't what this thread is all about?)

Yeah there's nothing like gettting a sexual harrasser, pro-abort, RINO as your chief fundraiser. Sounds like a guy with a lot of integrity(sarcasm off).

I wonder how many of the fire fighters who died on 9/11 while saving the lives of others were pro-choice?
Would you have fired them if you had known they were pro-choice?

What about our special forces soldiers in Afganistan, Africa and the Phillipines? Should all pro-choice soldiers be court marshalled and booted out of the service?

After you have purged the Republican Party of all pro-choice members, who will you go after next? The free traders? The globalists?

Let me know when you get down to running off supply-siders and I'll leave peacefully.
