I recently observed a 7-UP commercial that I found to be both vulgar, obscene and offensive to Christians and other people of any moral persuasion: an actor is walking down a street, removing his clothes until finally he is wearing nothing but his undershorts. He removes the shorts and a crowd around him is depicted staring at him.

I have a question: is business so bad at Dr Pepper/7-UP that you must resort to filth peddling in order to make a buck? What on Earth is the connection between a fine product like 7-UP, and a pervert who takes off his clothes on a public street, and why would such a lascivious display make anyone want to run out and buy your products? Are you now touting 7-UP as the refreshment of choice for flashers and other sexual deviants who expose themselves to an unwilling audience?

And why was the phrase "under God" left out of the Pledge of Allegiance, on the new Dr Pepper can? What anti-God, anti-American heathen among your employees decided that Dr Pepper/7-UP had the right to re-write this patriotic anthem to exclude reference to the God Who caused America to become the greatest nation ever to grace the face of the Earth?

Do you honestly believe there are enough "politically-correct" Socialists and Marxists in America to keep your Company floating -after all the Christians, and other people with some measure of moral standards, stop purchasing your God-less, deviant products? You had better hope so!

Personally, I can assure you that none of your products will pollute my home or office for at least six months after you remove your prurient advertising and un-God-ly Pledge of Allegiance cans from the public view, and I will ask everyone I can contact to do likewise.

Whether or not God is welcome in America is really anecdotal. He is not "welcome" at many places, even places right here in America today. As long as He is welcome in my heart and my life is the crux. It is ultimately an individual decision and choice. "America" has little to do with that decision or choice. If I were outright told "by America" not to worship Him I would anyway, as He is my Lord and Master, not "America". I face God in ultimate judgement, not "America" or my fellow Citizens.
Where "America" ultimately lists as a whole is an irrelevancy.

Never ever attack a company like the way you did. Most PR people at companies will just take your letter and throw it away. Instead of a loyal consumer you just made yourself out to be a loonie. The whole idea is to make them believe that you can be reasoned with and can be made happy with their product if they address your problem.

Nextime write a letter stating that your a loyal consumer of their product and still want to buy what they sell but you have some problems with their marketing campain and leaving the word god off the can. They will not address you if they think your some sort of nutjob.

This statement is false. Dr. Pepper does NOT have a modified Pledge of Allegiance on it. It has three words "One Nation, United" printed around the top of the can. It does no good to spread myths like this.

Agreed. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. I cannot speak to the Dr. Pepper can as I do not make a habit of drinking dressed up prune juice, but I have seen the 7-up commercial. I found it amusing at first but it is getting old.

The premise of the commercial campaign is to show how clueless the presenter is that he is actually turning people off to the product.

I'd have stuck with the pledge thing and been a lot less shrill.

I have to admit that I don't watch TV and have not seen this commercial, but I typically don't let anything on TV bother me enough to waste mental energy on it.

However, I cannot sit by and have the "Pledge of Allegiance" dismembered, destroyed, altered, or distorted in any way by those who don't believe in America and would lie down in the face on an invasion or threaten to leave the country if their choice of politician is not elected.

I must also add that I am agnostic and it does not bother me that "one nation, under God" is part of the pledge I have taken my whole life. It is not a pledge of allegiance to God as these PC weenies would like some to believe. It is a pledge to America. A pledge that says, "Yeah, I'll defend this country. I will fight, not side with, those that would do this country great harm."

1) The original Pledge of Allegiance did not have the "Under God" phrasing. That was added in the mid 1950s. Personally I prefer the original Pledge and I think that the wording flows better.

2) Dr. Pepper cans have the words "One Nation...Indivisible" on them. They have no other words from the Pledge on them. People have whined about why other parts of the pledge couldn't have been removed instead of Under God because they're too lazy to do any real research and just assume that the Pledge is printed in its entirety except for the "Under God" phrase. That is not the case -- the cans have a very small excerpt from the Pledge and nothing more.
