Extremely Friendly Operators At WH: (202)456-1414 Call and Advise a VETO of CFR!
The White House ^

I literally hung up the phone moments ago with a very friendly gentleman who is taking "comments" for the President. He knew why I was calling, "You want the President to veto the legislation?" he asked.
I launched into a restrained tirade about how I didn't want Democrats to hamstring freedom of speech. He thanked me and said he would pass it along to the President.
I also mentioned I didn't want the President to depend upon SCOTUS to nullify it...if it is unconstitutional, it shouldn't become law, please veto the bill, I said.
Please do the same fellow FREEPers. And write a letter, too!!

Keep doing it, folks!! The more he hears from us, the more he'll know what we want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And while you're at it, contact your SENATORS--'RATS AND REPUBLICANS, (Oh, and the "INDEPENDENT" if you're unfortunate enough to have Judas "Jackass" Jeffords representing you!)

A Veto would hurt Bush politically. Maybe you think a President should stand up for principle and do things because they are right, even if there's a political price to be paid. But Bush might not see it that way. He might think it's better to do the wrong thing, or at least, let someone else do the right thing, if it pays well politically. I don't know what he'll do. It's a character test. Soon we'll know whether or not he's a man of principle. What's your bet?

Let him hear from his base. If he knows he needs them in 2004, perhaps he'll do it. Keep those White House phones ringing off the hook. Let's Roll!!!

He's a principled man, CL. How he thinks the battle is best won is where I may differ from him. I hope he vetoes the bill. Whatever happens regarding CFR, he's head and shoulders above anything we've had in there in years.

I called and got right through in under 2 minutes. The comment taker (couldn't think of a better term) agreed about CFR and told me that it wouldn't hold up in the Supreme Court and I told him to tell W. to not let get there.

"He's a principled man" The proof is in the pudding. I have to say, his refusal to turn over documents from the Reagan presidency as required by law leads one to wonder if he understands what side of the Emperor / servant distinction he's on. But no need to speculate. Let's see what he does with this flagrant attack on the first amendment. Then we'll all know.

I knew Harry Truman. Harry Truman was a friend of mine. And Mr. President ...

After wending my way through the automatic menus (are they EVERYWHERE?) I spoke to a very friendly lady. She asked for my State, and then for my comment. I urged President Bush to veto the so-called "campaign finance reform" bills in the legislature; pointed out that the First Amendment is not a loophole; and said that there are better, more legal, ways to accomplish reform. She took it all down and was very pleasant, and thanked me for the input.

Incredible someone who claims to be a libertarian doesn't understand the separation of powers principle. Takes all kinds, I guess. G'nite.
