[history]
UC Berkeley suspended a male sexuality class Friday after the campus newspaper published allegations that students watched their instructor have sex at a strip club and participated in an orgy at an extracurricular party.
The suspension was announced after student instructors of the male sexuality class failed to attend a meeting with a university official Friday, said Marie Felde, a spokeswoman for the University of California, Berkeley. An investigation into the course was launched two days ago.

I can't tell which group is the bigger idiot - the ignorant school administration, the obviously unbalanced teachers, or the downright moronic students.

"It was just a fun, harmless get-together," Kovacs said. "Anything weird that did go on was kind of behind closed doors, and no one really knew about it." Yeah, nobody knew about it. That's why it got published in the school newspaper.

"Those sorts of activities are not part of the approved course curriculum," Felde said. Oddly, this is the only part of the story that I found even remotely surprising.

a class bonding experience
Gives the phrase "circle jerk" a whole new academic meaning.

The Berkeley student body and faculty: Ever hearing, but never understanding; ever seeing, but never perceiving.

I moved from Coronado to Arizona none too soon. I Thank God for relieving me of much angst. CA is a bonifide nuthouse. And, Berkeley deserves itself. As an aside, how do you think it felt (as a conservative Naval Aviator) to be represented by Feinstein, Boxer, and Pelosi...? I used to shoot the TV on a regular basis. Happy Weekend, All !!

I have to forward this article to the librarian at the college where I work. We were having a big discussion about the crap going on in schools today. At least, I was talking about the crap. She was talking about the opportunity for students to work beyond what goes on in the classroom - and she brought up Berkeley. Can't wait to see what her excuse is for this. Of course, with her being more than a liberal, I'm sure this was ok.

I just don't understand. These Berserkley administrators want to force homosexuality on society and they view it should be indorsed as part of a "diverse" lifestyle. They also appear to be anti-American based on their published views on the war against terrorism, etc. And just because some instructors carried on their course work (of an endorsed class) off-campus they get their shorts in a knot. You would think they wouldn't care if these types of "experiments" were carried on right in class on the prof's desk. They seem to be so confused they can't support a consistant course of education - unless the ox being gored is their own.
Other such courses are Blackjack, where students are taught how to count cards. . .
I thought kids were taught how to count when they were in kindergarden/1st grade. But in Berserkley parents pay tuition for kids to learn how to count in college. I wonder if this is a 400 level class.

Berkeley used to have such a great reputation. For years though it has been a liberal psudo hideout for stupidity. How can these types get these type of classes subsidized by the state? Oh yeah it's Calif. Stupid stupid calif. They deserve any budget problems that befall them.

For years though it has been a liberal psudo hideout for stupidity. It has indeed been that way for years. I am surprised we don't hear much about Stanford, as that is the one about which I was hearing so much bizarre stuff through non-media sources(word of mouth from friends who had been there as students and visiting professors) back in the early-mid 90s.
American academia is riding on a reputation established 40 years ago. While the hard sciences and engineering may be doing alright in terms of sanity, academic fraud has become increasingly common(transgenic mutation, cold fusion, etc...). And the humanities colleges are nuts. What was supposed to be an intellectual melting pot has become, instead, an intellectual cesspool.

...academic fraud has become increasingly common... The Marxist professors across the nation have become traitors to the ideal of the university, which is the free and open inquiry of ALL the issues. Try having an open discussion on the efficaciousness of religious morality, or the horrors of abortion, pornography, perversion, prostitution, promiscuity, homosexuality, and drug abuse on a campus anywhere today.
