I seem to have this vague memory of someone saying the tow truck story was a hoax. Does anyone remember any stories about that?

The tow truck guy led the cops on a zillion dollar wild goose chase in the desert. I think that says enough.

I never heard the tow truck story was a hoax. I do remember the guy changed his story about the day he helped the neighbor get out of the sand from like a monday to a tuesday.....and I'm not saying story as if in he "made it up," only that, quite naturally, he didn't make a clear mental note of a somewhat insignificant part of his job. Where did you read it may have been a hoax?

Interesting story here: Prisoners Harass Westerfield; Officials Isolate Suspect At Jail. Quote: "It was explained to him that the cows eat their own cud," one sheriff's official said, and that accused killers of children are considered the cud. "When you have an inmate like that, if that guy gets sentenced to life imprisonment, it could be worse than death," one official said.

If Westerfield did this (and it looks like he did), I can think of few sentences more just.
