The FBI Knew In '95, Why Didn't We?
The Indianapolis Star ^ | 5/25/02 | James Patterson

Eleven months after Timothy McVeigh was put to death for the Oklahoma City bombing, a startling revelation has come to light.

Specific information has surfaced that the FBI and other intelligence agencies were told in early 1995, shortly before the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, that Islamic terrorists were about to strike government institutions in Washington, D.C.

Less than a week later, a federal task force updated its warning. The target focus had shifted from the East Coast to "government installations" located "at the heart of the U.S.," which would include Oklahoma City.

Shortly after the bombing of the Murrah building, Yossef Bodansky, executive director of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, pieced together intelligence data strongly indicating that Islamic veterans of the 1979-89 Afghan war with the Soviet Union, who trained under Osama bin Laden, were responsible for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and the Oklahoma federal building.

Sandra Howell-Elliot, assistant district attorney in Oklahoma County, asserted in a Jan. 18, 2000, affidavit, that there are "intra-agency memoranda between the FBI and a host of other agencies that were not provided to either Nichols' or McVeigh's lawyers or the State of Oklahoma." She didn't know it then, but she was on to something. But what?

Most likely prior warnings, the same type of information that bothers the nation today about Sept. 11. A CBS News poll out this week found that two-thirds of those surveyed don't think the Bush administration is "telling the entire truth" about what it knew before Sept. 11.

The Congressional Task Force's warning revealed that Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations sponsored by Iran and Syria had been discussing since late 1994 a campaign of attacks beginning in 1995. That document boils down to ideological differences between radical Muslims, peace-loving Muslims and the rest of the world.

"In a series of gatherings and conferences in mid-February 1995, senior officials of the Hizballah (Hezbollah) and other terrorist organizations, as well as senior officials of Iran and Syria, made specific threats against the U.S. Congress and the White House," the warning states.

"These threats were made during conferences devoted to declaring the forthcoming phase in Islamist 'Jihad' against the West, and particularly the U.S. Congress and the president of the United States as institutions that are great enemies of the Islamist movement and especially Iran. This is a deviation from past discussion of the subject of struggle against the U.S. in that the Islamist leaders went beyond referring to the U.S. as a single entity to pointing to specific branches of government as their true enemies."

So American intelligence agencies had knowledge nearly two months before the Oklahoma bombing that an Islamic terrorist campaign was about to begin against the United States. But they failed to tell that to the McVeigh and Terry Nichols defense teams, who were looking for any shred of evidence connecting Middle Eastern terrorists to the bombing.

On March 3, 1995, the threat to U.S. targets became even clearer. The task force built a stronger case that something big was in the offing by issuing an update of the Feb. 27 warning to intelligence agencies.

"It was based on very special material I received and verified after the first warning had already been issued," Bodansky wrote in 1996. "The key message of this 'update' was that there was greater likelihood that the terrorists would strike in the heartland. The language that should be of interest is that the terrorists were expected to 'strike at the heart of the U.S.' We also put 'government installations' on the list of possible objectives ahead of the communication and transportation objectives (as in the Feb. 27 warning)."

The Oklahoma bomb exploded 47 days after the task force issued its March 3 update. Bodansky later indicated that intelligence showed Oklahoma City had been at the top of the terrorists' list.

"I did get, and later confirmed by numerous sources, certain criteria on how to better identify possible terrorist targets," he wrote in 1996. "By the time I mastered this 'method,' it was too late for Oklahoma City. However, going over and reconstructing relevant data (some of which arrived only after the bombing but had originated prior to it), Oklahoma City was on the list of potential targets."

The American people have a right to see any warnings about terrorism issued in the months preceding Sept. 11 and the Oklahoma bombing. Isn't it time to release those documents now?

Clinton. His reelection was far more important than confronting a terrorist threat.

Ambrose Evans Pritchard, quotes Clinton in his book as saying the OK City Bombing was the turning point in his reelection efforts. Remember the Republicans were talking seriously about reducing the size and scope the the FEDGOV - OK City Shut that down and put the momentum back on Clinton's side.

What I would liked to see is the documents that Ashcroft had to go over after he postponed McViegh's execution for a month, The other question I have is about Hussain Hussani who was detained on the day of the OKC bombing and let go, he was the driver of the brown pick-up observed leaving the scene of the OKC bombing. I read an article that claims he was working at Boston's Logan Airport on 9/11.

Why Didn't We? IMHO it was because those that carried out the first WTC had links to Bosnian Muslims and this fact would have derailed Clinton's agenda in that region.

Everyone knew, glorygirl.

There can be no self-delusion that"we" did not know it was coming. WE had alredy been a target for many years of sporadic terrorist attacks. The difference is that on 911 it occured on the CONUS to civilians. The dead at the Pentagon on 911 are but an afterthought in the minds of the public.

It has been occuring to military members in foreign countries for over two decades.

Hopefully now, the people can understand what we are up against.

I do recal SecOfDef Cohen under Clinton at this time and for many years making overstretched, vague, "terrorisim is in our back door...can hit at anytime, we will have to declare martial law (REMEMBER all of Clinton's E.O.'s) "America will have to give up freedom for safety one day."

REMEMBER?

They knew, they just didn't know when.

To: glorygirl,MizSterious,Uncle Bill,Fred Mertz,honway,Wallaby,lawdog,Marianne,B4Ranch,nunya bidness,
David Schippers made known (in interviews posted on the FR this year) the Bodansky memos in Feb and MArch 1995 putting the Murrah building on the target list for attack. Bodansky's memo went to COngressman Istook and Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma before the attack on the Murrah building.

I have known of the existence of this memo since 1996 and I contacted Bodansky's office and his other asistant Forest Vaughan on the matter in 1996, 1997 1998 and 1999. I also contacted and discussed with New Jersey Republican COngressman James Saxton's office about the Bodansky information in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. Saxton was the chairman of the House Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare and BOdansky in effect worked for Saxton as the Task force Director.

I repeatedly urged (but was ignored) that this offical government prior warning notice be made available to the public by Saxton, Bodansky, Forest Vaughan and journalists that knew about it (such as New American editor William Jasper and others with local and national TV stations such as Rita Cosby of Fox News) from 1996 to the end of 2001.

I first learned of another official prior warning notice in May 1995 (found by my literature search with the help of the OKC public library)which I made available to ABC news (broadcast on their national news). THe warning was a memo from the head of the US MArshals, Eduardo Gonzales, putting US Marshals on alert at all Federal Buildling including the Murrah Building in March 1995. The memo was reprinted in the NEwark Star Ledger by John Rudolf. THe entire Federal family was warned as a result of this memo according to US prosecutor Beth Wilkinson in a statement she made to the court in a pretial hearing in March 1996. The warning went to the FBI, BATF,CIA, US MArshals and US Federal Judges (including Wayne Alley of OKC).

It should, but it won't. Unless the New York Times picks it up it's not news. Oh and by the way the same New York Times that bought out KFOR television to put an end to the pesky investigative reporting of Jayna Davis. The truth could not impose on the Clinton agenda. Oh what a tangled web! Makes me sick to my stomach!

I did not want to post that statement and not back it up.

All these articles link the Bosnian jihadists to terrorists attacks or plans for such against America:

Don't expect much to come out of this. Many of us have known this for years--and a large part of that education goes to OKCSubmariner, who never gave up getting the information out and into the FR archives.

The FBI itself squelched the ME connection and allowed these guys to go free. At least one of them was working at Logan just before 9/11.

And don't forget that the fine Christian and bastion of truth, John Ashcroft, covered everything up again just before McVeigh's execution. The FBI and the DOJ are just as corrupt any third world mafia with power. Are there some good people in both organizations? Sure. But they are not in positions of power.

BTW, there are other connections between OKC and 9/11 than just the guy working at Logan. Mujahid Abdulqaadir Menepta, AKA Melvin Lattimore, first questioned after the 1993 WTC bombing because one of the terrorists had used his visa number, then brought to the attention of the FBI again by an informant in 1995 as a violent individual who belonged to a radical Islamic group that hated the United States and talked of destroying government targets, may have been the black muslim seen at the Travelers Aid Society just before the OKC bombing. He roomed for a while with Moussaoui. When he was finally picked up earlier this year, his lawyer in Oklahoma City just happened to be Susan Otto.

Susan Otto was one of McVeigh's court-appointed lawyers for his preliminary hearing. She asked to be excused on the grounds that she'd lost too many friends in the bombing. Or did she foresee a potential conflict of interest?

It should, but it won't. Unless the New York Times picks it up it's not news...

You know you will get no argument from me- the "DUBOB series"- tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast ( the stuff the media doesn't like to talk about )- has been something I have cataloged here for over a year. But I kept a scrapbook of newspaper clippings starting circa 1997 along the same lines, and the amount of "undernews" is appalling... they print it once, to have the "old news" excuse, then fall silent.

I will do this- around 9 AM, when more people are up & online, send this story to a pile of newspapers' letters to editors. I will also do this again when I finish compiling the next update of Dubob 9 and send that in.
