The provision gives a 25 percent discount on capital-gains tax to private property owners who sell their land to environmental groups or the government, instead of to other private parties.

The exact wording is: "The tax cut is supported by the Bush administration," and if that's not the case, it certainly seems that the opponents of the tax cut who are quoted believe the administration is backing it. BTW, this is from the Washington Times -- not exactly "the left."

I don't really see a big problem here. It's a tax break for selling land to charities. We already give tax breaks for charity donations, so what's new?? What Am I missing??

Bush has removed most planks the Dems rely on to attack every conservative President and their only hope is to divide conservatives. Sorry, but you're wrong there, pal. Bush has included this proposal in both of the budgets he has submitted to Congress. You'll find it on page 44 of Analytical Perspectives from the FY2002 budget and on page 71 of the same document from the FY2003 budget. The budget document calls it, "a cost-effective, non-regulatory approach to conservation."

Did President Bush not campaign as a person who would work with both sides of the aisle to accomplish those things that needed to be done for the good of our nation? Sometimes you have to give a little to get what you want. I may not agree with every proposal he makes, but I never expected to agree with him 100% in the first place. Why is Bush held to conservative perfection and why do people expect for him to be in total agreement with their own personal philosophies? I don't recall any other President being held up to such scrutiny and expectations.

These groups are the same Nature's Conservancy and other leftist orgs that swooped down on Klamath falls to pick up property for dimes on the dollar after the water was cut off to the farmers. This is an old tactic of the federal government and the conservancy groups. The feds regulate the land owner into paper hell, then when the property is worthless the conservancy groups go in and pick up the real estate real cheap. This goes on all around the nation. Most people are completely unaware.

Has Bush rescined the Heritage Rivers Initiative? It was one of the worst pieces of legislation to ever hit this nation with regard to property rights.

No, I didn't. He took their domestic issues and gave enough towards them to make those that typically vote Dem. without looking to at least make a second thought towards voting Republican. The Democratic Party always holds domestic issues as the weakest link in the conservatives chain of issues. By removing a complete hold on those issues he is opening up the way for more people to look at the Republican Party in a different manner than that presented by the Dems and to hopefully filling the ballot box with Republican votes.

What can I say? More of the same. It's getting disgusting and irritating. I have a feeling that Bush's base in the next election will not be the right leaning conservatives. I think many of them will stay home and not vote.
