Neither side in the budget debate showed signs of giving ground last week. Assembly Democrats say state services have already been cut to the bone in response to a $23.6 billion shortfall and that $4 billion should be covered with tax hikes and other revenue increases. Foremost among these is a tax hike of $2.13 per pack on cigarettes.
Republicans say the budget crisis was created by overspending and that the Democratic plan won't balance the books in future years. They won't budge on their opposition to taxes.DUMP DAVI$ & the Den of Socialists
