Two out of three Bay Area voters are unhappy with the candidates for governor this year -- more than any other region in the state -- and a like number say the candidates should spend more time talking about issues that matter to them, according to a public poll released today.

Gawd I feel sorry for 'Bay Area' residents.

They've finally figured out that Davis will sell them out for chump change and the only alternative is Simon, a right-wing, ultra-conservative, homophobic, racist, gun toting, Christian.

What we really need in California is an asteroid landing somewhat west of Yerba Buena Island.

Thanks for the ping. Well we all knew that the deciding vote would come from the "independent undecided voters" so Simon needs to continue reminding those voters that another four years of the Dimwit would be disastrous for CA.

That is IF you can get your disaffected voters to the poll... Jen

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the only Republicans from there were RINOs (Pete McCloskey, for example, and Tom Campbell -- but as someone on FR said the other day, even the worst RINO is better than the best Democrat). Now the Bay Area is entirely Democrat -- there isn't an elected Republican in the whole region. It's a sickness. And look at the kind of Democrats they elect: Barbara Lee, John Burton, Wilma Chan...It's also made me convinced that there's some merit to the spiritual theory of geographic or territorial demons. The Bay Area is one of the most spiritually oppressed areas I've ever seen.

What? Like, "Lucifer's Hemorrhiodal Hammer?"

(This question only good for those having read "Lucifer's Hammer.")

Could this mean trouble for us?

The Field Poll had him 7% behind, and the Field Poll is said to be heavily biased towards Democrats.

Is this poll biased in the same way? Because if it's not, we might have lost significant ground, and I'm wondering why - even the press seems to have gotten wise to Davis' shehanigans, and I would have expected a move of a few percentage points in our direction - especially since so many hate Davis.

I think polls are out the window at this point,, who knows who will show up .. It sounds like None of the Above is Ahead in the polls anyway.

I foresee more stuff hitting the fans before November 5th.

I wouldn't want to be a sitting Governor under investigation for over-exuberance in exercising his powers.

It ain;t over 'til the Fat Lady sings anyway. Speakin' of Babwa S. ;-)

These publicly released polls are often way off the mark, even the ones that are honestly conducted and are not push polls. Internal polling tends to be better, but the only absolutely reliable polls are exit polls. They are deadly accurate.

I, too, will wait for that Fat Lady.

No, they are not better than a Democrat. A liberal Republican in office actually helps transform the Republican party into a more liberal institution and therefore helps destroy the Republican Party from within.

If a Democrat gets into power it ENERGIZES the conservative base of the Republican Party. If the Rhino gets in the conseravtives are left out to dry.

I don't know enough about this organization to say how reliable they are with their polling. However, this poll is a 3-point improvement for Simon, compared to the last one by the same firm.

Even so, the result is slightly disappointing, considering that the vast majority of the poll was conducted after the fraud verdict was overthrown, and all of it came after Bush's visit. Furthermore, the poll had a large sample size, meaning a relatively small margin of error. Davis' lead in this poll is actually outside the margin of error.

Still, I'm going to wait for another poll to come out before drawing any conclusions. Hopefully we'll see another Field Poll soon. I think if Simon can stay within 6 or 7 points, he has a real shot at winning. Turn-out will be the key to this election, and I have a feeling it will be difficult for these polls to pin down who exactly is going to vote on election day. There are no other high profile races in California to draw people to the polls, so this one is it.
