Scandal ahead (for Gray Davis?)

The U.S. Supreme Court has cleared the way for the release of a corrupt California official's secret claims about Gov. Gray Davis in a decade-old bribery scandal, according to reports in the California press.

Court documents show that Mark Nathanson, a Beverly Hills executive who confessed to running a $734,000 bribes-for-permits scheme while a coastal commissioner, offered information in 1993 about a state official with whom he said he worked to get campaign contributions from commission applicants, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

This is interesting but won't do much to hurt Davis. Too long ago and your average person already assumes he's corrupt. Davis doesn't need to worry - especially with the S.F. Bay Area TV media. This story will never see broadcast time.

KTVU from San Jose had a 8 minute segment about Davis at 10:30 during the news after the World Series game tonight. It was amazing. It was essentially an 8 minute ad for the Davis campaign. Complete with photos and film clips from his childhood, and an old film of his mom reading a letter that Davis wrote to her when he was a young boy. There were photos of Davis in uniforms from different military schools that he attended as a boy. They also showed clips from a humorous video that was produced last year for a dinner event featuring Davis trying to be more personable. Even a clip of his wife saying how great a man he is. The entire segment looked like it came from Davis campaign headquarters. The purpose of the whole segment was to make Davis look like a warm and caring guy (in spite of the ice cold exterior). No sir - The (Bay Area) media would have no use for a scandal this late in the game.

Shameless presstitutes, the lot of them. Still, the SacBee spent probably $100 thousand to unseal this thing and it will get coverage. It is kind of redundant, however, as everybody knows how corrupt Davis is. Thankfully, he is loathed and while his tens of millions in attack ads on Simon have driven Simon's numbers down with those of Davis, Grayout's aren't going up.
