SACRAMENTO (AP) - Despite a slumping economy and the possibility of war with Iraq, a poll released Tuesday found voters will go to the polls in two weeks with education as their top concern.

One indicator is solid support for two education measures on the Nov. 5 ballot even with voters on edge over the shaky economy, said Public Policy Institute of California poll director Mark Baldassare.

More accurately, it's re-education that California cares about. It's all about the things Mom and Dad don't teach and don't want taught. But, hey, money and computers is all it takes to bring about edutopia. Go for it!

Kalifornia voters are stupid. Our schools are in the bottom 10% (we're 47th I think) and people think Davis will try and fix them during his 2nd term. I think he's targeting homeschoolers vis-a-vis Delaine Easton to get a quick bump up in scores if she can force all homeschoolers back into the gubmint diploma mill..I mean schools.

This state is a state of morons. I grew up in the central valley where normal people live, but this year finally did it. The state has gotten so bad that my wife and I have now decided that as soon as we can move - we're out of here.

You are certainly right about California voters being sheeple. It is ironic that California has the most college graduates in the nation. I guess a college degree is over- rated.

By the way, how is the homeschooling situation in the Golden State? Have CA homeschoolers experienced any problems or is Delaine Easton's Jihad just an empty threat?

I hear ya. This state is rotting from within with a bloated bureaucracies, incompetent and corrupt managers and "well-meaning" state officials have decimated our educational system, taX and spend socialists running the legislature ran us into massive debt, and a Guv keeps raking in money like no one before just says "Don;t blame me, because that is the way the system IS". :-|

We're leaning toward Nevada ourselves. Hang in There!

of which 1,538 were registered voters and 1,000 were likely voters.

That's quite a large ratio of registered voters to likely voters. It pretty much invalidates the poll.

I'm just starting to dig into the process since my kids are still babies. I don't know how empty the threat is, but I've read that Easton is really targeting the troubled kids whose parents pretend to homeschool to avoid the difficulties of parenting. I don't believe that though. I think she's gunning for all homeschooled kids, and I think Davis sees a way of bumping up scores in the short run if they can outlaw homeschooling, and bring those scores into the state's average.

There should be lots of CA "homeschool" threads on FR.

The measure would let the state borrow $13.05 billion in bonds

Sheesh, it will never end!

Nevada may be our choice too. It leaves us close enough to enjoy the Sierras, etc.

Let me get this straight, Easton claims she is targeting parents who use homeschooling as a method of avoiding the responsibilities of child-rearing. Yeah right, that really sounds logical. Often times, irresponsible parents use day care services, public schools, and after-school programs to avoid their parential duties. Why doesn't Easton and Grayout Dork arrest those parents?

The real issue is about federal money. The more students the public schools claim, the more federal dollars the public schools receive. The CA education system is hurting for money. Also, NEA is obsessed with power. The union thugs wish to dictate what school districts & homeschoolers teach. If the NEA's Homeschooling Jihad succeeds in CA, then teacher's union shall spread its Jihad throughout the country. CA conservatives must stay & defeat the Jihad in the Golden State.

"Easton claims she is targeting parents who use homeschooling as a method of avoiding the responsibilities of child-rearing."

That was an FR theory for her more recent jihad, and given my limited research into the situation, it sounded plausable. Frankly, my favored solution is to bail on the state, move to flyover country, and homeschool.

Right or wrong I am voting against all bond issues. We are presently in debt as far as the eye can see. Borrowing from Peter to pay Paul is a one way ticket to disaster. If money were the answer the Yankees would be in the World Series. Send the illegals home and eliminate the waste, fraud and abuse in CA welfare and we can all start sleeping better. GO ANGELS!

PS I am going to look into drawing up a referendum to place on the ballot in '04 to eliminate the state income tax. If FL and TX can operate without a state income tax why can't CA?

I think there are about 14 states w/o income taxes. Trouble is, as in NH, they have huge property tax rates, so the pigs are still feeding in the trough. I don't know about FL and TX.

I wish you luck in your endeavor. However, expect Grayout Dork and his band of liberal thugs to demagogue the anti-tax referendum to death.

This world is about to get a stark education in good and evil. And all the secular education in the world isn't going to amount to a hill of beans. Either you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you and guide you into ALL truth, or the spirit of deception will lead you into destruction. If you can pass this test, you will graduate into eternal life, if you fail, lets just say your future looks very bleak.
