CA: Gubernatorial hopefuls pick up pace

PASADENA -- Gov. Gray Davis tried to charm his way into the hearts of minority voters on Saturday, while Republican challenger Bill Simon reached out the old-fashioned way -- door to door.

With nine days to go before the Nov. 5 election, both candidates stepped up their campaign pace, each scheduling three events to try to woo voters.

Dick Monteith -- who is running for Condit's seat against Democratic Assemblyman Dennis Cardoza -- about two dozen supporters, Simon's wife, Cindy, aides and a few reporters, Simon walked through a Modesto neighborhood, knocking on doors and asking for votes from startled residents.

We have not forgotten; Gary Condit's rotten! Go, Monteith! Go, Simon! For victory & freedom!!!
