Trial ends in Simon federal suit over thrift

The suit by Bill Simon's family firm was the focus of a Davis ad during the gubernatorial race.

WASHINGTON -- A trial that figured prominently in the recent gubernatorial battle between Gov. Gray Davis and Republican challenger Bill Simon ended here Friday, but it will be months before a decision on whether the Simon family recovers any money from the 1993 federal takeover of Western Federal Savings and Loan.
