CA: Not much of a learning curve (CA Budget shortfall commentary by a conservative!)
Orange County Register ^ | 12/30/02 | Rep. John Campbell (R)

Edited on 04/14/2004 10:05:41 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

Democrats have turned a $10 billion state budget surplus into a multiyear $34 billion-plus deficit.

They have watched the state's debt rise, credit rating plunge, sales-tax rates rise, revenues decline and economy falter.

They have driven hundreds of thousands of high-paying manufacturing and technology jobs out of California.

If the people - the average citizens who often don't pay much attention to politics - make enough noise, maybe we can head some of this off at the pass. Even in Sacramento, the noise of letters and e-mails and phone calls, reflecting the protests of an aggrieved public, can be heard. And if that doesn't work, of course, there's the ultimate way to make noise in a democracy: in the voting booth.

Is is beyond words why they would even consider giving them another chance at the voting booth. California is tied for third place with Iran in the 'Most Needing a Regime Change' category. Talk about the Axis of Incompetence.

We're on the same page Ernie :)

I've been searching google news for information about the CA budget as I feel *very nervous* about the tax hikes on businesses etc.

You too?

I feel nervous about the tax hikes on property! And income ... my husband and I have been cutting back severely so that I can quit my job and stay home with the kids, and if we have any tax increases our plans will have to be scrapped, especially since we're not quite there anyway.

Damn liberals.

This damn budget deficit thing is so massive that the soon to be proposed budget by the Gov will be equivalent of the iceberg that hit the Titanic, urr, that the Titanic ran into.

For a few years, this state was awash in oceans of money. Where are the reserves, where was the foresight, the preparations to forestall this size of a debacle? Where, indeed. Ask the state demRats and the Gov who would sign any bill for enough money.

Thanks for the post. The Republicans can not do this thing by themselves , folks. Is a taXpayer revolt march on Sacramento the next step after Davi$ gives his proposed budget "solutions"?

Prop 13 is at stake, nothing less then tampering with the people's will will do in the eyes of the dimRats, the squinty-eyed rat-faced pukes that they are, agenda-driven.

It's encouraging that the biased media is actually publishing something written by a...shudder...Republican.

It must be the first time in 20 years or so... Sorry sir, it won't happen again!

You must be joking. Californians are above all that (unless it's an anti-war protest).

Not one FReeper has written anybody, anywhere asking about the violation of the Kali-Konstitution Article XVI prohibitions on borrowing money.

Not one Kali FReeper has written anybody, anywhere questioning Davis's Emergency Powers.

If Kali FReepers (who should be on the front lines) are that somnescent and won't take even 5 minutes of their time for a good cause (Sorry man...Survivors XXIII is on...), then the state is simply doomed. Hell, when I was a Californian, I wrote letters all the time - to the editor and to my legislators.

But look at the bright side. Y'all get to experience what living in the Weimar Republic in the 1920's was like!

LOL. Damn, ya got me! Do I know you ;-?

You know the Kali folks very well. How long ago did you escape?

I hear Munich and Berlin were swinging places in the 20s, comparable to LA and San Francisco in their decadence and debauchery.

Whoa! Good piece by Mr. Campbell.
I was sure that last line was going to end with, ": laugh out loud as you board the next bus out of town."

The more I read about the sick animals who control the government in California, the more I shake my head that anybody wants to stay there.

Anyways, I know I keep repeating this, but it is profoundly critical that the voices of sanity (the Republicans) continue to stay unified against any tax increase. Zero, nothing, nada - - not one more stinking, freakin' dime for the parasites and their pandering enablers.

If a handful of Republicans cave, for any reason, that will be the end of the GOP in California.

Regards,
LH

Oops, let me correct that....
"....the more I shake my head that any normal, taxpaying, traditional American family would want to stay there.

Obviously, the bums, parasites, homosexuals, and creeps want to stay there - - the government is their government.

Governor Davis was so worried that rolling blackouts would piss off the electorate and cost him a second term, he squandered every last penny of the surplus in a frenzied effort to prevent them.

Foresight? Governor Davis' foresight extended only to November 7th, and not a day beyond.

Probably won't do any good. I remember reading about the cr*p Lowell Weicker (?) pulled in Connecticut imposing the state income tax.

Require, but wouldn't issue permits for the march on the state house, etc. Strong armed some of the legislature's holdouts, bribed the others.

Howdy, I want you to know that I was born in California about 49 years ago. To add insult to injury, I was born in the old Hoover hospital. I believe it was located on the Stanford campus. As a product of the California school system, I managed to become a, "self made man." To put it very bluntly, it was the American born hordes who moved to my great state, with no thought except to financially rape and destroy for their own self aggrandizement and greed.

So, my fellow Freeper, care to elaborate on your description of me. This is my home, it is tuff to leave, especially when it was you and your self righteous brethren who destroyed, my home. By the way, define your vision, your standards, your rules, for this righteous, family values, America. When you get it all categorized and tabulated, let's compare notes, let's see who, indeed, are the parasites with no care for the future.

Traditional American Family?? God save us.

I found it a little tough to follow your post, but I remember seeing the blue/red county-by-county post election map and it sure looked to me like it was the parasite nests (cities) and their vicinities that largely carried the scumbags to victory in California.

When I say "traditional American family", I mean a family with a male husband and a female wife, maybe some kids and a dog. Also, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. in similar situations. Family picnics, Thanksgiving dinner - - you know, that sort of thing. And yeah, I know many families will have a divorce or two, maybe a crook or a drug addict, etc. My family has had all of the above, but this was the odd exception, by far. But mainly, a good family will look out for its members, and only want government out of their face and out of their wallet. I am sorry you apparently find the "traditional family" something to abhor.

Like I said, I couldn't really follow what you were talking about, but as a "fellow freeper", I probably misunderstood. Surely you don't mean to claim that it was "American born hordes" who moved into your state and gave you the sick, scumbag government that you have had for the past several years?

If my post seemed choppy and hard to understand it's because of anger. As for the destruction of the state, the eventual socialist government, I stand by my statements. Perhaps I was a bit harsh toward you, my apologies.

For the record, I love traditional holidays, think the world of my aunt, mother, and cousins. The old man was OK.

One last comment, the intimate relationship of women, or woman, make this world go round and round.
