California's Davis Backs [Willie] Brown as Calpers Chief
San Francisco, Jan. 15 (Bloomberg) -- California Governor Gray Davis is backing San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown's bid to become president of the board of California Public Employees' Retirement System, the San Francisco Chronicle said.
Davis called Brown his ``anchor tenant'' at the $130 billion pension fund, the paper said. Brown is already on fund's board.
Brown will run against Bob Carlson, a 31-year Calpers veteran, and Sean Harrigan, who will also seek the presidency in the election next month, the paper said.
Even if the 13-member Calpers panel elects Brown, he will only serve for a year, because he will have to give up his seat when his mayoral term ends in January 2004, the Chronicle said.

I felt bad for union folks before, but now I actually pity them. They better get a grip on things fast.
Now those public employees out there know why I call the Democrats the Slave Party. If the bigwigs want their dependent public employee pensions to shell out favors to stay in power, they just take it. Those workers won't let out a peep either, because they all know who signs the checks and those eeevil Republicans would put them out to get a REAL job where they'd have to work, or something even worse. They know it will all bust someday, but maybe after they get theirs.
Pigs.
