I would agree that nothing good can come of the proposed amendment. IMHO, it is an misguided attempt to incrementally decrease the amount of evil. Better still to get the government out of the marriage business altogether, don't you think?
Call it Equal Protection, if you have a taste for judicial activism. All laws regarding marriage are discriminatory because they treat married and unmarried people differently. If the law were neutral on the issue of marriage, this entire question would go away, and we would all be treated by our government as individial citizens.
I certainly agree with this part 100 percent. I've said before that international laws are just like gay marriages, they are fake.
I'm not saying fraud won't happen, but have you ever considered your story the other way around. Let me rewrite your story to let you know what I mean.
A man and woman get married and have a daugher. The man gets a retirement check in his old age. then the wife dies.
To keep the retirement money flowing in the daughter convinces his pop to "marry" him with a wedding. Father and daughter live now as man and "wife'. Then Father dies and daughter continues to live on Poppa's retirement check as the "spouse".
If daughter gets another "spouse" and the daughter dies can the new "spouse" continue to live on Papa's retirement check?
