Drudge: Rick Santorum's Tragic Yearbook Photo
The Atlantic ^ | May 26, 2011

Posted on 01/19/2012 2:05:43 PM PST by Zakeet

Lots of candidates have embarrassing things in their past that they'd hate to have flare up in the middle of a presidential campaign. I think we can safely conclude that we have found Rick Santorum's! At the right, cast your eyes upon the tragedy that is Santorum's high school year book photo--specifically, Carmel High School in Mundelein, Illinois, in 1976. (The picture is from Chris Good's compilation of high school year book photos of the 2012 Republican presidential candidates--it's not pretty, although I recommend clicking through.)

A quick office straw poll here at The Atlantic, conducted amidst uproarious laughter, confirms that this is, in fact, the single worst year book photo that most of us have ever seen. An outright disaster.

The guy hugging his waist was a gay activist, at some public event involving Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

I looked at the picture again of zero and some hairy M.E. guy. I know when I am with other guys like watching a f-ball game, I sit in a way where there is space in between me and another guy.

They look a little too close ! On that couch, if there are three spaces, it would be where one guy is at one end and the other at the other end and empty in the middle.

Even in the bathroom, there is certain etiquette like with urinals and toilet stalls. I would not take the urinal next to another guy and I would put at least one in between myself and another guy. Same with a toilet stall. This is in the case of three or more and the middle plumbing fixture is empty.

> No man... NO man... would ever sit in this configuration with another man.

If anything, Obama deserved to have his Man Card revoked right on the spot.

Ricky looks like the guy we used to pants in the hallway.

I think it explains my visceral reaction to him today. He just looks like somebody begging to be humiliated.

Sorry. I know he's a good man, smart and dedicated to country, God and family.

Poor guy.

I’ve always felt this is the most disturbing pic from Hussein’s past. No man... NO man... would ever sit in this configuration with another man. If the space next to Hussein were empty, you could think that perhaps someone left for a minute and would return soon. The space is not empty. This is two gay guys — a couple — enjoying a moment together.

I don't have the same reaction to this picture and I think you're most likely reading too much into it. If it were a gay couple "enjoying a moment", I don't think Obama would have his foot facing his roommate as he does and be leaning his head away as he is. Likewise the roommate's leg crossed away from Obama and the cigarette facing him seem like body language that is expressing a degree of separation rather than closeness.

I'm not sure what you are saying about the space next to Obama. It looks to me as if there was a bunch of stuff on the couch, and they are posing for a picture in the remaining space. There may be nothing more to it than that. And we don't know if this lasted more than a moment.

Leftist media telling us how to think to discredit Santorum via usual leftist method of making fun of people they do not want to have power.

Santorum is a real dork

That's exactly the word I've been using to describe him, with that stupid little sweater vest he always wears. Mostly it's his mannerisms, though. He looks and acts like a 53 year old who's running for student council president.

Ha! I'd like to think that's true, but the deal with my parents was: If I wanted my license at 16, I'd need to pay the insurance. It wasn't cheap for a young, single, male driver. On top of that, I was making a whopping $3.35/hr. That was the minimum wage at the time.

The first time I got paid, I wondered aloud: Who in the hell is FICA and why are they taking my money?

I can't decide if Weiner looked more like "Screech", or Janis Ian?

They cloned him using dna from Screech, Art Garfunkel, and a few drops of cartoon ink from the “Giggity giggity goo” freak on Family Guy.

I actually think Obama being gay is an open secret. Reggie Love is gone for that reason, I think, as well.

The last trench around that bit of truth is, “What, are you a homophobe?”

I can think of nothing more politically correct than the first black, gay president. Maybe, the first black, gay, muslim president. The problem with the ‘gay’ and the ‘muslim’ is that they are at odds, shall we say.

It’s like saying ‘I’m half Jew, half muslim.’

It makes Michelle a beard, which makes LOADS of sense. As for how the daughters came about - not sure I want to know.

Truman said that the garbage you leave in the Oval Office piles up and impedes the next President.

After Clinton, I didn’t think you could pile it up any faster than Obama has. When this is done, we are going to find out that we allowed this - I don’t even know what to call him - be the most powerful person on the planet for four years.

I do believe this - I think the current system of government is at an end. We can’t do the bicameral legislature, the terms, etc.

We need to move to a parliamentary system so that we can change the government when we need to.

A great many things are going to change, I think, in the next few years. I’m not sure we’ll recognize the place.
