A Ted Cruz loss would simply mean to me that the end of this Republic has arrived.

The ramifications of such a scenario are “unspeakable” in a polite society.

"I’m rooting for Ted Cruz to be the Republican presidential nominee"

Liar. He fears Cruz because he knows Cruz is smart. articulate, principled, and fearless. And is NOT an extremist, and who - if given a chance to present his case to the American people, unfiltered by media smears - just might be able to win the 2016 election.

"Smell their fear. No, REALLY smell it."

Yep. And it is NOT a fear that he is really a radical, but that if people are given a chance to listen to him unfiltered, they will agree with him and like him.

The absurdity - the lie - underlying this whole piece is that the self-proclaimed Democratic, progressive author would actually WANT the GOP to recover.

Since he is a progressive, he presumably does NOT want the GOP to recover, but to wither and die, so his opposition to a Cruz candidacy suggests that he thinks such a candidacy would be a threat to his interests and really WOULD help the GOP recover, which he does not want to happen.

He’s uncompromising, ideologically inflexible, and doesn’t appear to be very interested in appealing to non-conservatives.

You had me at "Hello."

>>Even if conservatives get someone like Cruz on the top of the GOP ticket, some will still likely be convinced that he wasn’t ideologically rigid enough.

I have seen him called a RINO. Seems a bit wobbly on the border.
